My mum has set me a CK3 challenge. Help me beat it!

    Posted: 21 Dec 2021 03:27 AM PST

I sometimes talk to my mother about my CK3 games, because while she doesn't play she does find history and video games interesting. In the course of one of these conversations, she set me an interesting challenge:

Starting as a Christian count in Turkey, become the ruler of Lapland in one lifetime. In other words, the Jarl Santa challenge.

I did a bit of research. This would require forming the Kingdom of Sapmi (which is rendered as Lapland/Lappland in some cultures). St Nicholas was from Myra, now known as Demre in southern Turkey. I'm not sure which county in CK3 that would be, but I'm sure I could get the right one if I booted up the game and looked at a map.

So how do I go about this challenge? There aren't any restrictions on ironman, start date etc, but obviously I'm not going to cheat. And obviously I have to make a custom ruler, Count Nicholas of house Christmas.

Idea for ck3: until the great schism actually happens (1054?) the Catholic and orthodox faith should consider each other righteous, and the decision to mend the schism shouldn’t be available yet

    Posted: 20 Dec 2021 07:19 PM PST

I just thought it was kind of weird you could mend the great schism before it actually happened, and the fact that the orthodox and Catholic Church in the earlier start date don't practice communion together. I thought this could be a creative way to get around this

For context: After my Roman Empire Enthusiast's arse finds an awesome expansion pack-sized mod centered around Norsemen in Vinland. 51 new counties, all in North America. Bonus points for two counties in Africa at the bottom of the map (One of them is Bambuk) becoming beachfront property.

Was trying to roleplay for the first time yesterday

    Posted: 21 Dec 2021 06:49 AM PST

So usually I min max CK 3 but yesterday I started trying to roleplay and it was f***ed up. My ruler dies at the age of almost 80 all his groomed heirs are dead, with only useless children left, and his arrogant sadistic and ambitious son takes control. Immediately his half brother claims his throne and starts a revolt. Luckily from my history of min maxing I automatically just started saving up money for the succession when my previous ruler turned 45 leaving my current ruler with 2 flushed out provinces and 2k gold. Needles to say rebellion was a cake walk. Capture my half brothers sole heir and obviously imprisoned my brother. Realize I'm 2nd in line to his title, so execute his son before him cause my ruler is sadistic ambitious seems the right thing to do, and then proceeded to let my brother rot in the dungeon with the knowledge his only son and heir is dead.

Such a fucked up story but a good one

Culture issues in the Middle East

    Posted: 21 Dec 2021 07:51 AM PST

I'll divide this post into multiple segments, each covering a different area of the Middle East.

The Levant: Well into the Middle Ages most of the Levant spoke Aramaic and they were known as Arameans. My suggestion is that the area from Lebanon to about Palmyra is of a new Aramean culture which is part of a new Syriac culture group that also encompasses the Assyrians. In turn the Assyrians should also cover more of Northern Mesopotamia, currently in game there's three Arabic Mashriqi Nestorian provinces which makes no sense, they should be Assyrian.

Egypt: Coptic was the main spoken language in Egypt until it declined after heavy Mamluk persecution. Egypt was also until this period largely Coptic Christian too. My suggestion is that a new culture is created called either Coptic or just Egyptian and is either in a new culture group called "Egyptian" or is in the Byzantine culture group like in CK2. The current Arabic Egyptian culture is either renamed to "Masri" or is incorporated into Mashriqi.

The Maghreb: After the Byzantines lost North Africa they left behind a lot African Romans. They spoke a variety of Latin called African Romance. In Latin they were called "Afri", which I find would be a good name for them. The Tunis and Tripolitania areas should have most of them. They should be in the Latin culture group and be either Catholic or Orthodox. A province or too in this region could also be Arian Christian for some extra flavour, although I doubt if that would be realistic.
