    In life, my latest character was a benevolent king with a large happy family of good looking, law-abiding folks. At least, that's what my character thought until the grim reaper came knocking at the fine age of 80.

    Then he died, and I took over the life of my lovely heir, a man who I was close friends with, and who always helped me get rid of the stress I amassed from my just, forgiving nature. A very loyal vassal who invited me to many great feasts and always had my back. A perfect heir to my compassionate leader by all accounts.

    He was also a man that everyone except me hated with a passion for many, many reasons!

    As it turned out, my favorite son was a total scumbag. He was a vicious duke with an appetite for torture. He had illegitimate children with 2 of his brothers' wives. He was known for attempting an assassination on a close kin, although I do not know who the target was.

    I went from being a beloved king to being the complete opposite, and nothing had prepared me for it. As a third party, I felt completely blindsided by this turn of events.

    I just wanted to share this story, and hear yours!

    De jure vassals wanting independence

    I'm doing a "Mother of us all" run, I've gotten all of the de jure empires of sub-Saharan west Africa, and all vassals within are my de jure, however, they are the ones most likely to join an independence faction against me.

    Is there something specific that causes them to desire independence, or is de jure vassalage not as set in stone as I thought it was?

    Edit: most if not all of the faction members are of my reformed bori faith
