Depiction of Byzantine Empire is absolute unacceptable

    Posted: 04 May 2021 05:55 AM PDT

So, I hadn't ever played Byzantine Empire after being a veteran of this game, I was still surprised by how little effort was put in. I suppose can forgive the feudal vassals, but everything else is just...it is like they didn't give a dam.

    Here is what I mean:

    • Can't unlock high crown authority, despite being the most despotic Christian state
    • Ecumenical patriarch casually excommunicates the emperor, despite the patriarch being at the mercy of emperor and Orthodox concept of excommunicating not working like Catholic
    • Can't declare reconquest wars on Bulgars
    • Holy War CB, when the Orthodox did not believe in holy wars
    • Obsession with claims, in Byzantine Empire any general or farm-hand could declare himself emperor, unlike in Latin Europe
    • Lack of pretenders, every Byzantine Empire faced at least one pretender, most faced one every decade

But thank god they included the meme decision to restore the Roman Empire, god-forbid that time could have spent on improving any actual gameplay.

I inadvertently solve my looming succession crisis by winning a crusade and putting my (almost) perfect daughter on the throne of England!

Pope launched a crusade against an England overrun by norse heathens. I'd never been on a crusade before and I had no idea how they work, but I thought it would be 'in character' to chip in my military support. I ended up getting pretty invested in the war, micro-ing my army around multiple doomstacks of heathens. Somehow I ended up with the highest warscore, like 14% or so. I thought my beneficiary would get a few counties maybe a duchy. Instead she got the whole dang title to the kingdom of England!

I also had no idea that the game would give me the option to play as her. I had been trying to engineer a way to put this character, my youngest daughter of 8 children, the only genius, on my throne (Genoa, in Italy). I was asking (forcing) my daughters to become nuns while planning on disinheriting my only son. Problem being, one of my daughters was ambitious and outright refused to become a nun. So the new plan, which would take 3 or 4 extra decades, was to advance to early medieval times, research royal prerogative, raise crown authority to high, set succession law to female-preferred, thus skipping my son, allowing me to disinherit the ambitious daughter instead while mentoring the rest with the right traits to accept becoming nuns. Only about 3 years from the culmination of this plan does my daughter instead end up in England!

Need some help with a Varangian Adventure

    Posted: 04 May 2021 07:46 AM PDT

Hey guys, its been a while since I've played CK3 so I recently jumped back in. It began in 867 somewhere in southern (would-be) Norway. I wanted to try the new feature out to rush to London and managed to squeeze out a lucky win by capturing Alfred.

Except now everybody hates me, we're feudal, and my religion is a problem. It was also quite random about who and where vassals were assigned in Essex but that's by the by.

    So my questions:

    1) What's the play RE religion? I like the idea of keeping this Norse viking pocket in England but it seems like it would be more painless to just convert religion and culture.

    2) What are the consequences of essentially skipping to Feudalism? I was surprised to see that I still seem to be able to raid, which I thought was a tribal feature (?)

    3) See question 1 but replace with culture.

    Thanks :)
