Crusader Kings 3: Royal Court Hands-Off Preview - Throne Room, Grandeur, Culture System Rework

    Posted: 21 May 2021 11:05 AM PDT

For a game called "Crusader Kings" what's the point of the Crusades?

    Posted: 21 May 2021 04:42 AM PDT

Talking about CK3 here. The Crusades are completely pointless other then gaining a bit of prestige and cash.

The Crusade itself is always fucked with their being no coordination at all which results in them lasting much longer then they should eventhough you outnumber them 5:1. To top it off you receive no land or vassals at all due to the stupid beneficiary system, which also prevents you from getting rid of any annoying vassals you may have.

I modded a stream of PDXCon into CK3 so I can stay up to date on which game I'm going to be breaking mod support for next.

Ah yes... after nearly 175 years of gameplay, a 1-year-old Habsburg girl now reigns Byzantium, and with Absolute Crown Authority and a claim on the HRE, she'll restore Rome's glory.

    The new game!

    Posted: 21 May 2021 01:01 AM PDT

PDX is going to announce their next game today, and a lot of people think it's going to be Victoria III or a fantasy-themed Stellaris.

Is anyone else hoping that they'll use the CK baseline to make something new?

It's by far the most — I might even go so far as to say the only — compelling thing that Paradox makes. Very few studios are making games that mix roleplay and strategy so effectively, and it feels underutilized. I'd buy a fantasy-themed Crusader Kings game in a heartbeat. Imagine if they got the Game of Thrones license from HBO. It seems like anyone with twenty bucks can get the Warhammer license.

Imagine how great those total-conversion mods would be if they had budgets and full-time employees working on them.

It'll probably be Victoria III, but we can hope. 🤞

    Sad incest noises...

Anyonee else find CK to get boring around the mid/late game?

    Posted: 21 May 2021 07:41 AM PDT

Played tons of ck2/3 but both have the same problem imo. The early game starting off as a low rank is fun, there is more intrigue, your still small enough that you can't just paint the map, succession crisis can actually be a big problem if you don't take the neccasary precautions since you won't have enough money to just buy a ton of mercs, revolting against your ruler is actually difficult, etc.

But then when you get to kingdom/empire stage the game is just pointless, assuming you built your provinces properly, you will have far more troops than all other nations, you will be making tons of gold so you can just buy ever merc group, intrigue becomes pointless since you can just pummel everyone in a war, and it just becomes a paint the map sim.

Anyone else find this to be their experience with the CK series and paradox games in general? And anyone else know how to spice up the mid/late game so it isn't so boring?

    Stop this MADNESS now!

    ABSOLUTE ANARCHY for House Jimena

    Posted: 20 May 2021 11:07 PM PDT

I HAVE to write somewhere the madness that is happening to the descendants of Fernando the Great.

Firstly, Alfonso the Brave's relationship with his sister was exposed to the world,

then this same sister, Urraca, KILLS HIM, and his son Alfonso VII (who i'm assuming is the product of their incest considering he has the Sterile trait, otherwise he's the HALF-BROTHER of Kaiser Heinrich IV) EXECUTES HER.

Then his uncle, Garcia the King of Galicia COMMITTS SUICIDE and Sancho the Strong is DENOUNCED for whatever reason and 13 year old Alfonso VII wins a war against Sancho to reclaim Galicia after he conquered it himself!

Meanwhile I'm playing Svend of Denmark for an achievement run, successfully helping Harold Godwinson keep his throne while simultaneously winning a war for my claim on Norway. This game is madness.

edit: dear God. I had a threesome and now I'm lovers with my son Bjorn and daughter Ragnild.

edit 2: my other children, Harald the Whetstone and Sigrid are lovers too. this playthrough is cursed
