My line of melancholic Irish kings has resulted in a ruler that became a drunkard the very instant he turned 16. He looks hilarious next to his hollow-eyed ancestors

A list of “fallen” European dynasties for restoration roleplays

    Posted: 18 Nov 2020 09:56 AM PST

I've been playing a lot of "restoration" games lately, i.e. playing a dynasty that historically used to be kings but had fallen to be lowly counts or dukes. The Karling count of Vermandois is the best example, but there were many more of these characters all throughout 1066. I looked for some interesting character lists but they don't really have every one of these characters, so I thought I'd compile a list of all these characters myself.

This is only meant for roleplay ideas, so it's not very strict in its definition of "king". Some historical kings may not be a de jure kingdom in the game, like the English kingdoms in 867.

I've also been playing dynasties that would rise after 1066, but that would be a much longer list so I would probably be doing that later.

For now, I'm doing 1066 Europe only because I don't know much about the history in the rest of the world. Also, I might have missed some characters so feel free to tell me if so.

For convenience, I'm listing the characters by the de facto realm they belong to. Enough said, here goes the list:

House/Characters History 1066 de facto Realm
House Komnenos: Doux Ioannes II of Armeniac, Doux Isaakios of Antioch, Doux Alexios of Boukellarion Byzantine Emperor Byzantine Empire
House Kometopoulos: Count Radomir of Silistra, Count Alusian of Vidin Emperor of the Bulgarians Byzantine Empire
House Cerneu: Earl Cadoc of Cornwall King of Cornwall England
House Wessex: Countess Margaret of Staffordshire, Earl Eadgar of Warwickshire King of Wessex, King of England England
House Karling: Count Herbert of Vermandois Holy Roman Emperor, King of the Franks, King of the Lombards, King of Italy, King of East Francia, King of Aquitaine, King of Burgundy France
House Seisyll: Lord Maredudd of Perfeddwlad King of Wales Gwynedd
House Bosonid: Duke Bertrand II of Provence, Count Jaufret of Forcalquier King of Italy Holy Roman Empire
House Ivrea: Count Guillaume of Besancon King of Italy Holy Roman Empire
House Ivaring: Mormaer Gofraid of the Isle of Man, Mormaer Fionnghall of Galloway, Mormaer Comgal of Carrick King of the Isles, King of Northumbria, King of Dublin Isle of Mann, Sudreyjar
House Nakonid: Count Budivoj of Lubeck King of the Slavs Lubeck
House Briain: Petty King Murchad of Munster High King of Ireland Munster
House Neill: Earl Domnall of Oriel High King of Ireland Oriel
House Alt Clut: Duke Malcolm II of Strathclyde King of Strathclyde Scotland
House Loairn: Duke Mael-Snechtai of Moray King of Scotland Scotland
House Munso: Prince Erik III 'the Heathen' of Sweden (Duke of Uppland) King of Sweden Sweden

How to play CK3 besides map painting?

    Posted: 18 Nov 2020 06:05 AM PST

Hi there! I'm a noob player that started playing CK2 only 2 or 3 months ago and really liking it a lot so far! CK3 is a very entertaining game for me.

The thing is, I just keep reading you a lot in here posting about enjoying the game besides "map painting".

I do enjoy map painting, but maybe it has to do with how do culture / religion stays after conquering? (my newly conquered land is usually not super happy or efficient). What's the way to "properly paint", then?

I also enjoy the RPG aspect of the game... Am I missing something else? I really want to savour it all!

    Cheers

Anyone else miss the feeling of beeing a "little finger" ?

    Posted: 18 Nov 2020 08:16 AM PST

Before the nerf of kidnapping, I really enjoyed beeing a non-top ruler. I kidnaped rulers, children and courtiers. Tried to make them my religion. Helped my liege winning wars, ect.
After the nerf. playing like a schemer is not fun at all... Cause it's so limited..

Anyone else want to play a "Little Finger*" character, and feel like they want an expansion dedicated to that way of playing?

    Hm, isn’t that convenient

Was just casually playing some CK3 and forgot to manage my factions when an independence faction popped up and warred me, right before they could do anything I realized their leader was somehow in jail so I executed him... fastest civil war in my life.

    Emperor Stuart Stewart's Steward's Steward's Steward's Steward, Stewart Stuart

    Posted: 17 Nov 2020 01:05 PM PST

Once Ruler Designer is released, you can make a House Stewart for an ahistorical 1066 start. You start as Count Stewart, and your brother who is good at economics, becomes Count Stewart's Steward.

After a couple of years, your son Stuart comes of age, so he becomes your steward, or Count Stewart's Steward, Stuart Stewart.

After a generation, your son becomes Duke Stewart and his son Stuart becomes a count, who also serves on his council, as Duke Stuart Stewart's Steward, Stuart Stewart. He also has his son Stuart on his council, and he serves as Duke Stuart Stewart's Steward's (Stuart Stewart) Steward, Stuart Stewart.

Again, you rise through the ranks, your descendant becomes a King, and back in your home county there's King Stuart Stewart's Steward's (Stuart Stewart) Steward's (Stuart Stewart) Steward, Stuart Stewart.

After many years of toil, the Stewart Dynasty finally takes on the mantle of Emperor, so now back in your home county there is Emperor Stuart Stewart's Steward's (Stuart Stewart) Steward's (Stuart Stewart) Steward's (Stuart Stewart) Steward, Stuart Stewart.

Now, at the same time, your family has been best friends with House Marshall, who serve as your Marshal due to their high Martial, and of course Marshal Marshall's Marshal is Marshal Marshall's Marshal Marshall's-

is there anywhere to share custom character DNA codes?

    Posted: 18 Nov 2020 06:31 AM PST

People have been making some pretty cool characters, I usually see them on the Steam Community, but are there any organized places for sharing them? They'd be pretty useful once the Ruler Designer comes out.
