I think I figured out the reference behind the King's crest on the CK3 box art

    Posted: 18 Nov 2020 11:10 PM PST

On the CK3 cover is a king looking very majestic with his cape, crown, and armor with a crest with a Fox on it. It has been pointed out a few times that this crest actually exists in game, it belongs to Otger Renart, Count of Brene, a vassal of the Duke of Lausitz in 1066.

    https://imgur.com/8Ce8mk5

A peculiar thing about this count is he is one of the few set characters in the game. Most characters have their name and dynasty set but each time you start it randomizes traits and skills. Only important characters (like William the Conqueror) or specific references (like developer insert characters) have set traits. Count Otger of Brene in 1066 always has Brave, Vengeful, Stubborn, Shrewd, and Twin, meaning he is either a specific reference or important historical character. A quick search showed he isn't historical, so what's the reference?

The main clue is in the dynasty and crest: The fox crest of House Renart, with the motto "Cunning as the Fox". Looking for "Renart" and "Fox" leads to Reynard (or Renart) the Fox, a character from English, French, Dutch, and German medieval fables. Reynard was a fox who featured along side other anthropomorphic characters like Bruin the Bear and King Noble the Lion in stories parodying literature of the time or satirizing politics or the church. In these stories Reynard is a classic trickster archetype and frequent peasant hero who uses his wits to out smart the aristocrats he's up against. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reynard_the_Fox

The final proof that this is the reference is count Otger's wife, who is also a set character named Hersent of house Louve, which is the French feminine noun for wolf. One of the recurring characters in the Reynard the Fox stories is Hirsent the She-wolf.

So conclusion is that if that is the reference behind the character with the fox crest, it's probably also the reference behind the crest on the box art. The crest of CK3 is a symbol of stories that subvert medieval norms and make fun of the church and social structure with trickery and deceit. Well done Paradox.

There was an outbreak of the plague on the byzantine court, so now there is a Nubian Coptic woman on the throne who also is my best friend. Things like this are why I love the game

Post game stats would be cool

    Posted: 19 Nov 2020 08:33 AM PST

Like when you finish a game or lose you should get a screen with all the dinasty stats achievements, family member's deeds etc even something like this member was in fact not part of your bloodline so you realize at the end of the game all you descendants were not yours or something along those lines.

For some reason, my son is a redhead, while me and my wife both have dark hair. Any chance of this happening naturally, or my wife is cheating on me?

Currently the game feels way too easy with the other rulers having no ambition

After getting a message that a member of the ruling Patrician Family of Amalfi was burned at the stake. I decided to look through their family tree to assess their situation as their new head is an old fart just like the previous. When I noticed this oddity I have highlighted with the cursor.

    province struggling -20% gold! CK1

    Posted: 19 Nov 2020 05:46 AM PST

Hi comrades, I know I'm really late to the party and can't understand why I never gave this franchise a try before but CK2 was free for a time on steam, tried it, seemed confused without tutorial or hints, so went to GOG and bought CK1 for 2€.

So I'm playing CK1 with Kingdom of Portugal (I'm Portuguese :D) and having really a lot of fun, read all the hints when you begin a game and basically I'm trying to get a grasp of everything so I can hopefully move to either CK2 (complete) or CK3, as I can see your posts and damm, it really looks cool.

Some aspects I still struggle (the marriage part, I want my widowed 26 old king to marry the count of Bristol, she's 22, why can't I? because she has already a county?) but generally speaking I'm getting the gist of most mechanics, did the accurate version of History and grabbed all the south of Portugal and even nailed 2 territories in Spain, one of them Cadiz which is quite the realm.

Now, and sorry for the long introduction, I'm definitely failing to understand how the prosperity of provinces work: Porto is rich, Évora is prosperous and Lisboa, where I have my capital (and a lot of improvements) was poor and now it is even worse, they are getting a negative modifier of 20% gold.

How come? And how can I manage/change this?

Thanks a lot in advance for any feedback, it will be appreciated!

When Is The First Expansion Pack for CK3?

    Posted: 19 Nov 2020 08:35 AM PST

Just curious, when is the first expansion pack coming out for CK3? Also, what will it be?
The devs should take as long as they need, I'm just curious if the date and/or the content has been announced.
