Polyamory tenet 100% protects against cuckoo eggs in your dynasty

    Posted: 14 Dec 2021 10:47 AM PST

When you create a custom religion, you can select the Polyamory tenet. If you select this tenet, the mother always reveals the real identity of a child's father. If you combine with "no bastards" doctrine, the baby get the wild oat trait and is always assigned to the correct dynasty based on its biological lineage.

Polyamory is generally considered a useless tenet but it is actually quite useful. Interestingly, I got cucked less with Polyamory than without it.

Some of the tenets have larger implications in game than are apparent on the surface. Pacifism, another "useless tenet" is useful in keeping your vassal's vassals in line to not wage war against each other.

Any other tenets with unforseen consequences in game?

    3 Thoughts on Marriage

    Posted: 14 Dec 2021 10:44 PM PST

I have been pondering marriage in CK3 recently, and my discontents with it. Here are some ideas I've had, which might be interesting. I don't know how they would work in terms of game balance and that sort of thing, but I would love to discuss if people are into it.

The first thing is that I really hate the common player behavior of marrying a) lowborn nobodies or b) siblings or parents etc for traits and so-called "eugenics". This is wildly ahistorical to the point of inanity, but people do it because the mechanics incentivize them to (disregarding the meme reasons, which are fine.) The DNA system and all that, though, is so ingrained in the game that getting rid of it is a non-starter. So how would I fix it?

I am thinking something like there being a family veto. Marrying this way should be a massive hit on Renown/Splendor. Your whole family should hate you for it. Maybe it could work like changing inheritance laws, where you need all your powerful vassals to approve, and every family member has a weighted vote, the Dynasty and House heads having the most power -- although of course the player is usually in those roles, which might make it not work as I mean it to. (I would love it if it was harder for the player to be Dynasty, House, and Cultural heads...) But anyway you should have a serious struggle to get your family to accept your lowborn wife or son-husband, and if they don't accept them -- they should consider the marriage morganatic and your heirs illegitimate, or maybe you should be disinherited and cut off from the family -- losing all Splendor and all Dynasty perks and maybe having to fight your former family members to keep your own domains. Like, it should be possible, but very difficult, to do these crazy marriages.

Number two, it might be interesting to have dowries (or bride-price, depending on your culture/religion etc?) Some kind of give and take between you and the parents of the people you marry -- this might work well with the artifacts that are coming. But a dowry of land could be fascinating, and make an Eleanor of Aquitaine more feasible.

Lastly, so these two might make marriage even more transactional, where's the romance? Well, I would like it if your spouse's "assistance" in the council screen was weighted by their opinion of you, kind of like the bishop works now. Incentives to be nice to your spouse and treat them respectfully. The rest of the council, ok, you can order them around whether they like you or not, but your spouse is not your employee, and should only help if they like you.

Those are some thoughts, interested to hear what people think.

Starting as a Celtic, I converted to English culture, imposed heavy taxes on vassals, and funneled everything to Southern England. Now I am culture converting the other celts to English culture as well. :)

Well guys I'm just at that stage now where I'm expanding but I've got level 4 authority. Just wondering if your vassals can expand when it's like that? They've been lazy bastards for a while and I'm sick of doing everything myself haha

    Lord of the Kings Mod

    Posted: 14 Dec 2021 11:54 PM PST

Okay so I recently downloaded the lord of the Kings mod and every time I try to login to Crusader Kings I can't seem to pass even getting into the main menu without it crashing. I also had other mods in my playsets so I disabled most of them in order for the lord of the Kings mod to work however it still didn't do anyting. Did anyone else have this same particular problem cuz I'm getting frustrated and quite eager to play this mod. If you guys have any idea how to fix this please tell me.
