    Western Europe is terrible

    Posted: 07 Nov 2021 02:46 AM PST

Title. Western Europe, despite being one of the most popular regions to play in along with the Middle East, has an absolute dearth of content and is horrifically broken and ahistorical. Going from East to West, England is probably the most consistent and historically accurate area in Western Europe, however some mechanics to allow England to transition into a Parliamentary Kingdom would be interesting.

France is broken, the moment the first ruler of France dies when controlled by the AI, France splits into France and Aquitane and seldom ever actually reunifies. France is an absolute pushover, especially after this, leading to a majority of games (in my experience) where England conquers the remainder of France.

Spain is the worst affected. The Reconquista just doesn't work, the AI is too stupid to actually complete it which leads to the complete opposite of what I'd expect to happen, I have not once seen Castile actually succeed in the Iberian penninsula in my 300 hours of gameplay, unless I am playing them. This has a knock-on effect because once the Moors finish rolling Castile, they bully Southern France who is always too weak to actually stop them.

The HRE is bereft of any of the actual mechanics that would make it interesting. The electors can't change, even if you form the Archduchy of Austria, anyone can randomly declare themselves a King/Queen, there's no Imperial Diet, and being the Kaiser/Kaiserin is actually a negative. Religious heresies can break out in the HRE with absolutely no wider response from the Emperor.

The Pope is pretty much nothing but a money and claims button for Western European rulers, he very rarely gets involved in anything and there's no advantages or disadvantages for being on good terms with the Pope. Excommunication rarely happens. It would be nice, for example, if you're on good terms with the Pope to be able to get a Cardinal as a Realm Priest, or generally be able to get a bit of good old nepotism to work in your favour.

"The Genes Unlocked mod is awesome! I'm gonna set my ruler's aging type to ageless. What could possibly go wrong?" ... "Why did my wife give birth to an adult man?"

    Spontaneous quests

    Posted: 07 Nov 2021 08:59 AM PST

One thing that I really wish this game had was spontaneous quests. These would be goals for you to achieve in response to situations that occur naturally in the game, and which would be rewarded by fame and renown.

We've all experienced family members or wives being captured and turned into concubines. There are few easy way of getting them back, because the game does not acknowledge this as a significant event. You could have had a special casus belli to free them or a scheme to do it without warfare.

Just like you can check how someone died by mousing over the skull beside them, there should be a way to keep track of how people became your rival. What did they do? Did they kill your father? Did they tarnish your sister's virtue? Did they loot your castle? And it should be bigger incentives for taking revenge on and punish those that have wronged you.

It would give the game so much more flavor and keep it from feeling like purely maths and numbers.

Why are we forced into confederate partition / variations in the early game?

    Posted: 07 Nov 2021 05:16 AM PST

I get that there are ways to get around it, like creating bastards and legitimizing only one etc. and disinheriting when necessary but its still annoying that you can't access any of the proper inheritance types till late in the game.

    Yhea, sure. Loyal.

R5: I sold minor titles for some cash, and was thanked for the honor by a "loyal" vassal fighting against me in a claimant war.
