    A conversation with my marshall

    Posted: 03 Jul 2021 05:29 AM PDT

Marshal: The war effort is going excellent my liege, we now control over 90% of the enemy's territory.

King: That's great news, it won't be long until the duke must surrender and swear fealty to me.

Messenger: My king, your ally, the count of SmallSingleCounty wants your help in a defensive war.

King: Tell him help is on the way, we can easily miss a few hundred troops to help out an old friend.

    Marshal: Good news my liege.

King: Has the duke finally surrendered?

Marshal: No my liege, the poor sod has died, from old age it seems.

King: Doesn't matter, at least we can now add his lands to our territory now.

Marshal: Not really my liege, his son has taken his fathers title and now rules those lands.

King: Well then his son can swear fealty to me.

Marshal: So you want to declare war on his son, my liege?

King: Declare war? We are already at war with him, we control over 90% of his territory, don't we?

Marshal: I'm afraid not my liege. When the old duke died, we relinquished the conquered territories to his rightful heir.

King: What? Why would you do such a thing?

Marshal: It's the right thing to do my liege, your war was with his father, not the young boy.

King: I don't care about either of them, it's their land that I want!

Marshal: So you want to declare war on the new duke, my liege?

    King: Yes!

Marshal: I'm afraid you can't do that, Sire.

    King: Why the hell not?

Marshal: You still have your troops gathered at his borders.

King: So? That would just make this bloody war go faster.

Marshal: It wouldn't be fair, my liege.

    King: Not fair?

    Marshal: No, Sire.

King: Fine. Order the troops to retreat.

    Marshal: Very well, my liege.

King: Now declare war on this new duke.

Marshal: Of course, Sire, which Casus Belli should I quote?

King: The same as the old one. Forced subjugation.

    Marshal: Very well, my liege.

Marshal: Everything is in order, Sire. Our troops should arrive at the gathering point in approximately 12 months.

    King: 12 months?

Marshal: Yes Sire, gathering is slower than usual because you and the count of SmallSingleCounty are still at war with his enemies.

King: What about the troops already gathered here?

    Marshal: Which troops, my liege?

King: The troops we gathered to fight the old duke of course.

Marshal: We told them to disband, my liege.

King: But they're still here, aren't they? I can still see them when I look outside, some are breaking up tents, others haven't even heard the news yet.

Marshal: I'm sorry Sire, we'll have to wait until they've all gathered, one year from now.

    King: Fine, I'll wait.

Marshal: What about the enemy troops, my liege?

    King: What enemy troops?

Marshal: The old duke's son, he's gathered his troops and is sieging down some of our holdings.

    King: Why?

Marshal: You declared war on him, Sire.

King: Well I didn't know it would take a year to gather our troops. How did he get his troops together so fast anyway?

    Marshal: They're his troops, Sire.

King: Didn't we defeat most of them in the last war?

Marshal: Those were the old duke's troops, my liege, these are new ones.

King: So his troops can gather his in a few days, yet I have to wait a whole year?

Marshal: Yes Sire, and they're taking our holdings. I'm afraid we might lose this war.

King: We outnumber him 3 to 1!

Marshal: Not for another year, my liege.

Y'all think we will be able to choose where we hold court ?

    Posted: 03 Jul 2021 04:48 AM PDT

I've been wrapping up one of my most successful ck3 games where I went from King of Lotharingia after charlomagne to Roman Emperor in 1220 via a marriage from my Empire of Francia(and Kingdom of Jerusalem ) to the Byzantine Emperor. The son who united the realms was raised in Constantinople until the age of 10 where he moved to Sienna to attend university in the French court.

As he grew into adulthood I realized holding an empire together could not be done from one capitol instead I understood he had to spend milder winters in Italy and Summers in Northern France . Going to his Greek holdings occasionally as well to keep good relations.

The point being. In Royal court we should have to travel , or be allowed to choose where we hold court. It just doesn't make sense to make all vassals from around the world always come to where you are

    Guys....I made a mistake.

    Posted: 02 Jul 2021 11:30 PM PDT

To start off I am not good at this game. I get wrecked often, but always play ironman. Today going for the Kings of the Seventh generation achievement and I failed like 6 times in a row. Finally, after numerous tries, I claim France for myself. Shortly afterwards the pope calls for a crusade (I've never won one before - we always get wrecked invading Jerusalem). After many close calls the christians squeak out a win and my benefactor claims Jerusalem. I am pumped and excited to check out that For the Faith achievement before crashing in bed, and....wait....the achievement didn't fire....

I boot up the game again. Praying to the gaming gods it's a glitch and it will fire on reboot. As soon as the game opens I see achievements are disabled. In my quest to start a new game after my many failures I didn't enable achievements.

    Kill me.
