You can still get achievements if you only design one character; you don't need to play that character.

This is a useful tip for anyone struggling with some of the more difficult achievements. I used it for the "Last Count, First King" achievement (forming Portugal as Duke Nuno) but it can be used for many others.

Open up the game with the 'play any ruler or create your own' option. You'll want to work out who your biggest obstacle to victory is, and eliminate them. For me, it was the Emir of Badajoz, directly to the south. I made the strong Muslim duke into a weak (0 marshall) Zunist woman with no traits. Went on a long pilgrimage for the 500 faith, declared a holy war for the Duchy of Beja, and won with relative ease. Since she was a Zunist, she couldn't call in any allies, and her 0 marshall score meant she barely had any levies. After that it was pretty plain sailing; now with 5 counties in my direct domain, I had enough levies to declare independence and push for the Algarve, allowing me to form Portugal and get the achievement.

This can be useful for other achievements as well. For Carolingian consolidation, use the ruler designer to erase your strongest contender for complete consolidation; for Miklagardariki or Frankokratia, you could try destabilizing the Byzantine Empire from the get go by making the emperor a young Norse Muslim. There are many possibilities to try, and I haven't tried them all yet.

You cannot design multiple leaders though, this just disables achievements. So no Carolingian Consolidation by removing all other Karling leaders, or Mother of us All by changing the religion of everyone in Africa. However, changing one ruler around can make some playthroughs significantly easier, and cheesier.

    Most fun non-Astaru Tribal start?

    Posted: 18 Jun 2021 03:07 AM PDT

Been wanting to do a fun tribal-to-feudal, build an empire up from nothing type game. Any recommendations for some fun areas to do this in, preferably in 867 (but 1066 is cool too.) Non Astaru primarily because I love em, but play em too much lol
