Posted: 14 Dec 2020 12:38 PM PST I like to play the game in what I call "single life mode". I play a single life of a character and try hard to build a great empire. Usually I build something pretty epic. Then, when I die in battle or abdicate because I can't take my stress level anymore, I switch the game to observer mode (via console), and let the AI play out the lives of my heirs. Usually my empire falls apart within 50-100 years, and by 200-300 years my Dynasty may live on, but my empire is split in 50 pieces, many of which are no longer in my dynasty's control. Even if I take the time to split up everything carefully before I die, I get the same result, maybe with a 25 year delay. The takeaway I get from this is just that, you can only do so much. Even as an emperor you don't have control over what will happen a few hundred years later. So as a regular person it's a good reminder that the work project or whatever else I am stressing about won't matter to anyone in 100 years, let alone 1000, so I take a deep breath and press on. Posted: 15 Dec 2020 07:46 AM PST New player here, so I bet this story is very uneventful for most of you. I finished the tutorial but kept playing as the petty king of Munster. Made it a couple more years and he decided he was bored of using the same weapon all the time and wanted to try something new. As he is someone that likes to keep things in moderation, I agreed and let him experiment. Turns out he got a cut with his new weapon. Nothing serious, "he will fully recover in a couple days," said the court physician. A few days later... he ded. RIP in peace. Most games, I always try to min-max or optimize, but after that, I feel like I can just experience this game and the story it tells. I'm continuing as his son, who is falling more in love with his wife every day. Who knows what tomorrow will bring? Needless to say, I'm hooked. [link] [comments]
How a Stranger Appearing in a Tavern Caused Me To Get a Game Over Posted: 14 Dec 2020 04:01 PM PST Begin game, playing as the Duke of Nógrád, Hungary. First ruler is a brilliant martial leader, a chivalrous diplomat and all-around awesome guy. Within four years he contracts gout. Recruit court physician. Court decision decides to treat my gout with an enema. This was the less adventurous treatment available. It goes about as well as you'd expect. Second ruler is vastly inferior to the previous, but he does have good Stewardship. Ok, I thought, time to make long-term investments. Turns out he is also Paranoid. Event triggers where a man turns up at the tavern claiming to have been paid to draw a map of the area for a foreign noble. It doesn't matter what I choose, being paranoid means I peak a stress level immediately. I'm offered the choice between becoming a Recluse or converting to Karaism, a form of Judaism, to stay pure. Recluse would waste my one good stat and harm relations with my wife (who already doesn't like me), so I decide to convert. After a year and a half, my liege (already known for his bad public relations) says that he cannot allow me and my evil faith to hold my county any longer. Accepting, naturally, seems like a bad idea. Out of curiosity, I click 'Refuse'. It turns out that, instead of merely souring relations, this triggers a full-scale war against the King of Hungary. I am absolutely flattened and thrown in prison. Within about two weeks I have all my titles stripped from me. Game Over, after about 90 minutes' playtime. Thank you, Paradox. I was really worried I was in for a boring game of slow development. Good thing we can rely on the random event roller to keep things spicy. [link] [comments]
Don’t Give Your Heir a Republican Title Posted: 15 Dec 2020 01:06 AM PST Even though they're marked as your player heir, your game will end. CK3 does not warn you about this either. I'm aware that we can't currently play as a Republic, but I didn't realize my heir would take my entire kingdom Republican and that my 250 year Ironman play through would immediately end. I've put 300 hours into CK3 so far, and I'm going to have to go play something else for awhile. I'm honestly devastated. I could've revoked his titles or disinherited him and played as my brother, if only I had been warned. [link] [comments]
