There’s something wrong with this subreddit Posted: 20 Nov 2020 11:43 PM PST Ever since ck3 I've noticed a disgusting trend on this subreddit. Now I can forgive kinslaying, murder, incest, religious extremism, forced concubines, blood sacrifices, witchcraft, cultural conflict, eugenics, the suppression of the peasantry, infidelity and even infanticide. But I've lately been seeing SYMPATHY for the god damn Karlings. You people know who you are and this has to stop. You make me sick [link] [comments]

Seduction is worst lifestyle fight me Posted: 21 Nov 2020 04:22 AM PST Am I missing something here? The benefits are minor at best. Attraction opinion and fertility boost are handy. But what's the point in seducing? Stress loss for lusty characters and a bunch of bastards. Maybe getting a woman you need to come to court by seducing first. Help for murders which you don't really need if you just go schemer. Very few benefits here outside of roleplay. Feel free to change my mind! [link] [comments]

Weddings, Funerals and Coronations... musings on improving narrative and immersion! Posted: 21 Nov 2020 12:28 AM PST I've really enjoyed CK3, but based on the prerelease videos I was expecting a bit more of a dynamic narrative experience than what I am seeing. Like, my heart kind of sank a bit when I saw that the decisions tab was still there. Let me explain. The decisions tab isn't a good role playing tool, it is just a catch all for basically gold conversion and a few things that they didn't have a clear place for. These lead to very predictable stories that are just speed clicked once you've done them a few times. They aren't really part of a broader narrative, I just need some prestige to declare a war so I bang out a hunting expedition. Meanwhile, weddings and funerals are just minor notifications. I think that the design team has missed an opportunity to both streamline the game and create stories around the kind of events that actually mean something to the characters that we are role playing as. It has happened more than once that I didn't even notice my own kids dying. I would say get rid of the feast button and replace it by turning funerals, weddings and coronations into "feast" type events. There is so much more meat to a narratives that derive from being at the funeral of my first born son, the wedding of my eldest daughter or being invited to the coronation of a new Holy Roman Emperor. This is part of a broader theme on narrative development. We (humans in general) don't like stories that are lead by antagonists. If you've ever wondered why Atlas Shrugged is such a bad book, its because the main character is an antagonist not a protagonist. In a good story the lead is a protagonist, a person who maybe has goals but has to weed his way through the difficulties made for him by the antagonists to get there. So for a game thats unique feature is its roleplaying/storytelling aspect, it is not good to let the players drive the bus too much. They should be reacting at least as much as driving the story with their decisions. Reacting to the death of a child or wife is a life changing moment that is out of your control, but now you get to chose how this PC is going to deal with that. That is interesting, those are the moments that great characters are made. Things like hunting, going on a pilgrimage, hosting a feast, should be tied to lifestyle choices and lifestyle attributes. Maybe when you were younger you were on a domain focus, you have both good martial and stewardship so you gain the Huntsman attribute. Now for the rest of the game, if you are healthy and doing nothing else, maybe saving for the next war or recovering from one, you simply go hunting because its part of your lifestyle even though you are now maybe on a different focus. Other hunters in your realm will join you and be more likely to become friends with you. Same for anything. If you're a blademaster you maybe wouldn't get a direct bonus, but will spar in your spare time leading to events that then give you opportunities to get prowess buffs and make friends with others in your court who also like to bang steel. Kind of spit-balling here, but again I think that it would be better for roleplaying and immersion in your character, their likes and dislikes and the NPC's that they are likely to spend most of their free time with, their posse as it were. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- And that leads me to a couple other ideas that make good stories that we connect with. Love. What is a story without love? Not everyone in the west understands this, but our idea of romantic true love was an invention of medieval Europe, the Queen of Aquitaine's court to be precise and only became a thing elsewhere in the world after contact with the west. Not to suggest that other people didn't experience romantic love, they just didn't idealize it over arraigned marriage like we do now. The most classic archetypal story of the medieval age is the daughter who is betrothed to someone she hates and she dreams of being rescued by her true love. The Princess Bride, Tristan and Isolde. Not having that in the game seems like a missed opportunity. Every teenage character should fall in love, at least once. I have never met a human who didn't fall in love at least once in their lives, and I've never met a human who hasn't done insane shit because of it. An early betrothal would increase the odds of them loving their future partner, but its not a sure thing. Having your own character pining away for his true love that got away, or having such a character arrive at court after her husband died. Oh the dilemma, I've learned to love my wife but its not true love, and now she's here. I am about to do a lot of things that are totally out of character aren't I!?!? This should also be a problem for rulers in the game. Having your daughter run off with one of your knights on her wedding night, throwing all of your carefully made plans into chaos. How can I get her back, maybe I have to offer my other daughter to make this alliance happen now and they are insulted an confused, oh dear the dilemmas. Or what about a love that is not returned? Maybe that would be most common with "true love" being the rare thing it is. Or the betrayal of someone you love. That's enough to turn the most compassionate of men to murderous thoughts. Love too often leads to hate. Love is so powerful that it should be capable of changing you to your core if not handled correctly. In fact, I'd go as far as to say that rejection, love, or the lack of it, is really the gateway to becoming a cynical, sadistic, evil person. I mean some are just born that way, but most bad people are really just deeply hurt people. The inverse is also true, love really can warm a cold heart. Again, these are themes that echo throughout history. Yes its not easy, its not necessarily going to make you happy when it happens, but when you resolve a difficult problem it is REWARDING. Feuds. Everything is there for blood feuds. In any storytellers book of motivations, skulking behind love is its inverse, vengeance. Obviously these would be most intense in Clan government type societies, but you can't spell Feudal without feud. In my last game, on a scan of Arabia there were three vassal wars going on between my Farasid clan and the Abbasids. I was allied the the Caliph through a betrothal but was also ready to break away and form the Persian Empire, so I broke the betrothal, declared independence, he gave up without a fight, founded the empire, then re-betrothed my heir to his oldest daughter so we could fight off a crusade. IN THREE DAYS. Meanwhile one of my vassals killed his brother by torture after their war autostopped. I mean, that should all start a feud between our families that would probably go on for hundreds of years. There are active feuds in that part of the world that are still going on today that date back to the period of the game. A feud would be a big opinion penalty and make it almost impossible to form alliances, friendships, council positions or any other relationship with the other clan without taking big penalties from your own clan, especially vengeful characters. It also means that once a blood feud starts, you may lose councilors and even friends because of it. Assassinations, claims, factions all being driven and supported by your rivals. Only love can break through a blood feud, see Romeo and Juliet. There are tons of roleplaying and gameplay opportunities in feuds, whether you are trying to stop them or inflame them for your own purposes they again just reduce random and create narrative. Then they could take out all of the "why is my generous, gregarious, content son suddenly murdering random people?" and replace them it "shit, my spymaster brother just killed the heir of my most powerful vassal over a minor dispute at my wifes funeral and they will want revenge how can I stop this from spiraling into a cycle of violence that will weaken the kingdom while I grieve the loss of my one true love, oh, and two of our kids are in love too, faaack!" I guess I actually have to imprison him at least... And finally, the Diet or Parliament or Duma or whatever. Getting all of your lords together was a historical thing that rulers could resort to when things were really bad or important for the whole realm, but also just to gather financial and military support for wars. They are high risk high reward things, your lords may also have demands of you or expect favors in return. See the reign of Edward I for the benefits and dangers of calling Parliaments, he was able to win major reforms but often had to pay a steep price to his lords to achieve them. This would allow for mini-crusade type events for prepared invasions for example. But it should also be an option to ease resistance to big policy changes like founding or embracing heresies, inheritance laws or bulk changing feudal contracts. It creates a chance for you or your chancellor to make a pitch to all of your lords at once, or your steward to ask for funds to get the crown out of bankruptcy or your bishop to make the case for breaking away from Mother Rome. Again, its always a risk to put them all together, but sometimes desperate means call for desperate measures. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Just thought I would share some ideas I've had while playing. Maybe people with modding experience might feel inspired. I know not how to mod, but if anyone feels inspired I would help how I could to see some of this added to the game. [link] [comments]

Guide Full List: Crusader Kings 3 Posted: 21 Nov 2020 07:17 AM PST I recently started working on ck3 to produce the most professional tutorials this great community deserves. Each of these videos requires from me over 40 hours of research and over 10 to be produced. So I hope that you will find them useful to get started and become pro in this game. Also, considering the great growth this game giving to my channel I think to dedicate full time to this game till I finished explaining it. So, if you want to know when I will publish more videos for this game subscribe to the youtube channel and enable notifications. To finish if you want that I prioritize specific arguments you struggle with leave a comment in one of the videos with the request of the topic you want to be fully explained and I will prioritize it to my normal schedule. Byzantium ruled by Ecumenical Patriarchate. Any way to remove them? Posted: 21 Nov 2020 06:05 AM PST Per the title, the Ecumenical Patriarchate has somehow taken over Byzantium. I've murdered a few, but they're just replaced by another old man, usually with great skills. I'd love to destabilize Byzantium since I'm Transylvania right above them, but that seems impossible outside of endless wars that I probably won't win. Is it even possible for their government to change at this point? I'm a relatively new player, so let me know if I'm missing something obvious. Thanks! [link] [comments]
