Before ck3 launches, let's appreciate how ck2 used to look during it's beta

    Posted: 30 Aug 2020 08:58 AM PDT

    Then vs. now

    Posted: 30 Aug 2020 09:30 AM PDT

Opinion: The sponsored videos are NOT designed for you.

    Posted: 30 Aug 2020 08:45 AM PDT

When the sponsored videos first came out, I noticed a lot of backlash from seasoned crusaders for being over-simplified, or not delving deep into the mechanics of the game. I even saw one forum thread talking about how "paradox restricted them to playing a single ruler's lifetime". This is (most likely) not true, and that boils down to the marketing of the game.

    ~

People on any social forum site talking about CK2 have sunk hundreds, sometimes thousands of hours into it.

    ~

So why should they appeal to you?

    ~

They already know you're going to buy the game regardless of what they show. Hell, remember how everyone went ballistic (in a good way) over the first screenshots back in 2019? They have absolutely no incentive to appeal to the people who have already explored 7-8 years worth of content, and would rather combine two different groups of people than alienate one of them.

    ~

The videos were made for the general audience who either has no idea what this series is, or the beginners who would prefer a more streamlined, non-tedious version.

    ~

Realistically, that's most likely one of the reasons why PDX sponsored youtubers instead of giving them a review copy: they wanted guidelines to ease the game into new audiences rather than a random gameplay video.

    ~

Remember those hour long tutorials for CK2? No potential customer is going to look at those and say, "Ah yes, a game in which I have to watch this to play the game properly".

    ~

Anyways, sorry for a bit of a rant, just voicing my opinion.

    ~

TLDR: Marketing to new people is key to make money.

Most exciting features you guys are looking forward to?

    Posted: 30 Aug 2020 09:16 AM PDT

Here is a list of mine:

    1. Mercenaries are paid upfront and no longer require maintenance fee.
    2. Changes to supply lines to avoid sudden death when moving to a low zone
    3. Men at arms system (hopefully) allows for customization that has a tangible impact on war success
    4. Vassal management system seems really exciting, but I'm wary that it'll be a mess late game
    5. Stress system for choosing actions seems like a great roleplay mechanic - always loved the idea of building an archetype of a character that can do things out of character when necessary
    6. UI seems much cleaner IMO, a lot more of the information appears more obvious with less clutter
    7. Creating my own religion
    8. Schemes requiring you to have large backers, rather than a ton of small insignificant backers
    9. Domain system allowing for more development and customization
    10. Culture-specific technology and how that affects armies in different terrains.

I wish CK3 had more relevant art in the event popups

    Posted: 30 Aug 2020 12:55 AM PDT

I've been watching some of the streams, and I'm pretty excited for CK3 even though I barely started with CK2 a few months ago, but I did notice something lacking. In CK2, many of the event popups had artwork that were somewhat related to the event. For example, if your co-conspirators plan on pushing someone off the castle balcony, the castle drawing would show up. In CK3, if I remember correctly from the streams, simply showed the victim standing around in a dark hallway and explained the death. That's pretty boring. Also, your spouse looking pretty passive after finding out you cheated on them.

I'm not expecting a cinematic masterpiece, but I would like to see the characters with more relevant expressions and in more relevant settings.

Lets all just agree, the death screen is bugged and don’t post about it anymore

How we all feel about our Liege Lord?

    Posted: 30 Aug 2020 05:51 AM PDT

I won't be streaming until September 1st for the launch of Crusader Kings 3 - Remember, there are no opinions or reviews allowed until the launch of the game, and there are heavy Sponsorships with almost every YouTuber covering it. I look forward to hearing if it's actually good! -ROP Twitter
