Posted: 31 Aug 2020 05:08 AM PDT I thought it would be neat to point out obscure things in the UI I feel like a lot of people still don't know about CK2 right before CK3 is released. If you ever see combat between two armies on screen, you can actually tell a lot by what's happening in the battle, even without a battle screen. Here's an example. The army who's troop numbers to the left are the attacking army, and the 3 blue shields above the crossed swords represent the phase of combat for the 3 flanks in the attacking army (army to the right is defensive army, shields on bottom). For shield colors, blue is skirmish phase, red is melee, yellow is pursue, and white is retreating. If you were to scroll over that little cirle with the red "-" icon, it would tell you the defensive penalties the attacking army is getting. The little chain icons circled in the image show who is attached to an army by the double chainlink, and who is leading the attached armies by the triple chainlink. You can see what one AI character's opinion of another is by right-clicking a character and going to "explore character options". It brings up a search function similar to the character finder. So if I want to know the Pope's opinion of another character, I can find out this way. The tech screen has map modes to see what other county's tech is like in the rest of the world. For instance clicking this button will show everyone's tech for improved keeps. The whiter/lighter blue the county, the better the tech. When you scroll over a county, with the tech screen open, it will also show the exact tech of that county in your tech window. Here is the mouse scrolled over Constantinople with the improved keeps map mode open. The little "i" icon in the top left of the screen above your portrait let's you see info about your character's culture/government/religion and game rules. It's useful if you're not getting an achievement and think your checksum is messed up. Some religions get modifiers to units and holdings, you can find out what these modifiers are by clicking this button in the religion tab. Clicking these two numbers will bring up an extended battle screen. There's actually a lot you can learn from the UI in the battle interface. Let's say I want to know if I own every barony in Croatia, if you hit sow dissent with your chancellor, it will show in green in your realm the counties that have baronies that aren't owned by you. AFter seeing this post(where I even got the idea to do this), I thought I would add a few more things about how to control allies it seems some people never knew about:
A few more that might seem much more obvious, but was surprised to learn a lot of people still don't know about. when starting a new game you can pick any date between 1066-1337 with accurate characters and borders. You can set reinforcement speed of retinues so you don't have to pay as much for upkeep. You can scroll over a character's voting "sytle" to get a tooltip showing how they'll vote usually. Scrolling over this button shows every character modifier for combat and part of the math behind it. There's also message settings in the options menu which let's you set message priority so you're not constantly getting a ton of messages you don't care about. I would lover to hear more about some more obscure UI elements that maybe I didn't know about [link] [comments]

Posted: 31 Aug 2020 10:23 AM PDT I told myself, in my delusional mania, that I'd wait a year; maybe in the wake of the deployment of a few patches, once a few DLCs had been released, and perhaps, even, under the auspices of a small sale, I would buy CK3. It would be cheaper that way, certainly. I'm meant to be entering my first ever semester of college in the next month; I don't need unnecessary distractions, I resolved. Paradox games are great, I conceded; but they are awful time-sinks. Surely this is not what I need right now. I need a keen eye, a cool head, unsullied by silly map games and the little lords and ladies that populate them! ... I have just preordered Crusader Kings III - Peasant Edition, because I know what I am. I delude myself further - I'm making this informed purchase, this business decision, to serve the sole purpose of getting the game out of my system, shake the habit before it veritably takes hold. In reality, I preordered because I want the little dresses for the German people in the Swedish game. I'm complicit - all the perfumes from Ireland to Cathay will not sweeten this little hand. Buzz for release, gang, this is going to be unreal. [link] [comments]
