    Geography Skills

    Posted: 07 Jul 2020 05:52 AM PDT

It occurs to me now that I'm reading academic papers and such things in University that my geography skills are above average from most of my peers simply because I've played CK2 so much.

Case in point, I've been reading a paper on folklore and anthropology from Germany and I can visualize in my head where Frisia, Prussia, Swabia and etc. all are.

    Rant: My shortest game

    Posted: 07 Jul 2020 11:21 AM PDT

Started a new campaign last night, 769 start as Laigin.

My goal was to populate Ireland with only my dynasty, just to see if it's possible.

So I start off as a childless count. Marry Augusta Corvina. First child is a genius girl! Exciting times ahead.

Have three more girls, youngest is also a genius.

I conquer the de jure duchy, switch to Tanistry, matri-betroth the eldest genius to Karloman's son (Karloman died at 19 in this game). Things are looking up.

    Then the pop-up.

    Augusta's child.

Youngest girl is a freaking demon spawn. I decide I don't want to play as Daughter of Satan, so I talk to my chaplain. He exposes them. Youngest girl is now a bastard. Wife imprisoned.

I execute the wife, and imprison the girl. Try to imprison the girl. She gets away.

A few years later she starts killing her sisters.

Plot to kill is only 35%. I try to join Lucifer's Own myself in a desperate attempt to get at her (abduct), but they ignore me.

I remarry and pick up some concubines. Figure if I breed them fast enough, she won't be able to kill them all.

Genius heir dies. Youngest daughter dies. I die before having anymore children. Middle girl inherits. A few months in she's killed by spawn of Satan.

    Game over.

Furious that the little brat didn't realize she was disinherited.

How do I strengthen my empire?

    Posted: 07 Jul 2020 05:49 AM PDT

I've reached the point where I usually start a new game. I like to start as a count and slowly work my way up to a kingdom or empire, then stabilise the realm. Once that's done, I look to the next biggest fish and realise I'm way below in strength and tend to just restart from scratch.

I'd really like to change that with this latest playthrough. I've taken the Britannic Empire, I have two permanent vassal kings (same dynasty), due to the fact the empire was primogeniture, but the kingdoms were still gavelkind. This is the first thing I'll need to work on, but after that, I'd really like to take France.

Right now, I have a military of about 6k strong, plus a 2k retinue. France is sitting on 11k minimum, but there's always the chance for event spawned troops and mercs to push that up further, so there's no way I can go toe-to-toe with them right now.

What I'd really like is to build up my empire with holdings and upgrades and play the long game. See my realm prosper for a 5-10 years, and then look to conquer. Alternatively, I'd be open to conquering through marriage, but I find any plots difficult to pull off in the Parisian court, so it makes line of succession adjustments difficult.

I'm looking for some sound advice on what options are ahead of me, and how I can prepare myself for any French threats before I have amassed my own forces. I currently have the Duchy of Brittany and my dynasty as duke of Upper Brittany (with the French liege), so I already have a good hold on the west and a place to invade from.

Also, possibly relevant info: I'm currently at around 25g/month, that's my current income, and that's with a retinue of around 3k. I'm in the early 800's.

    Three Crusades with One Character

    Posted: 07 Jul 2020 05:00 AM PDT

Disregarding immortals, has anyone ever had a character live through and be the top participant in three crusades?

Does anything special happen (perhaps including immortals here)?
