I genuinely and utterly enjoy playing this game and earning the achievements and actually have a desire to play more. I have never felt this for another game, odd.

How to play the "power behind the throne"?

    Posted: 30 Jun 2020 05:43 AM PDT

Being a vassal got more interesting after Conclave, but I'm still struggling on how to fully exert behind-the-scenes power when you are a vassal of comparable (or higher) strength to your liege.

The most obvious way to use your strength is through factions, of course, but they are kinda limited in goals (change liege, increase council power), you can't use them repeatedly, and they are honestly a blunt instrument - using military force to threaten the liege. And you can't do it while marrying into the lieges' family.

Council power is more effective. You can use favors from your liege to change laws, and you can use favors from other council members to make them vote with you. But of these only the liege favors really matter, because all the votes you could want to start in the council are things against your liege, that everyone else would approve even without calling in a favor. And anyway these are mostly things that you can stop your liege from doing (declaring war by himself, removing titles, etc).

Are there other mechanisms I'm forgetting? Is it possible to pull an Almanzor and become the de facto ruler of a realm while remaining technically a vassal?

    CK3 Genetics and Children

Has there been any dev diaries about Genetics or children in general? The closest I see to it is DD1 with the dynasty legacy but all that says is more on that later.

Unto Frostbite - a CKII Sápmi AAR

Sápmi is one of the most beautiful and endearing lands in the world, I hold it more dear than maybe anything. And as a Swedish-Sámi person, I find it my God-berendered mission to unveil the majesty of Sápmi and her people to the world, thus I present to you:

I have finished the first couple of chapters of my new AAR centered in Sápmi. It is a Historybook-narrative hybrid for all those of you who are into those! And even if you aren't, check it out, you may just get hooked.

Do the Crusade events stop firing after a while/on certain conditions?

    Posted: 30 Jun 2020 10:02 AM PDT

Just curious if the crusades happen all through the game (playing a 1066-1453), or if they stop after a while.

In my game particularly, the first Crusade took the Kingdom of Jerusalem, and the second was to target Egypt but ended up toppling the Byzantine Empire. Jerusalem is now again in Muslim hands. The year is 1161.

Do the Crusades end now that Byzantium no longer exists (and therefor is no longer threatened)?

Will there be more calls to say attack Egypt or take back Jerusalem? It feels like it has been a long time since the last Crusade but idk exactly how long.
