Crusader Kings Tutorial Tuesday : December 28 2021

Let me say first that I get that the deaths of kings or emperors way back when were tumultuous times for their people, but literally every time my character dies everything seems to just go to shit.

For example I just witnessed the death of my steward based King who was beloved by all. No offensive wars. No civil wars. No uprisings. Not a single problem of any kind. Not even any factions made during his life. All powerful vassals were on the council. No land disputes. No nothing. My one and only son who is a 27yr old genius Diplomat with a 25 Diplomacy takes over and you would think that Attila the Hun just got the throne after pissing in everyone's cheerios by the number of factions that were immediately made upon my death.

My literal first notification was that a faction had been created and that it had enough military strength to make an ultimatum soon. That is ridiculous. My new character is a literal diplomacy god, his father was a beloved and respected ruler. Yet everyone wants him dead and overthrown.

I just feel like there should be room for a peaceful transition if the previous ruler was a good guy or if the new ruler is one as well. If my heir is an Albino Adulterous Murderer who is excommunicated then sure burn him down, but if I have a Calm, Patient, and Gregarious Diplomat I feel like I should at least get a chance to rule before everyone tries to overthrow me and murder me.

I (M39) just heard that my firstborn son (M22) got imprisoned by his wife (F39) because she discovered that he had a deep relationship with his mom (F43, my ex-wife). AITA for asking his wife to put him in the dungeon?

So, this needs a bit of backstory.

I am the Duke of a certain region around the Channel. My dad died young and left me behind at the guide of the Dukedom at 15 of my years. Since there were a few internal problems, when I became 16 married with a robust Occitan woman, daughter of a powerful Duke and had a happy marriage with her. I truly had. We had a few sons and daughters; 3 of each to be precise and a couple of them (a son and a daughter) were twins, we also had a couple of miscarriages. We shared our happy moments and our deepest griefs. 6 years ago, however, I discovered that my firstborn son, who now was the same age as I met my ex-wife, and my ex-wife had a relationship thanks to a few letters my servants found. More than a simple mother-son relationship, if you follow. I immediatly asked her to stop this, which she refused. She broke my heart, and I wept a day and a night. She broke my trust and she broke my self-esteem as I was deeply humiliated by her words. Most importantly, she broke the Santicity of Marriage. I thus asked the Pope for a divorce and I fully expected a positive answer for him, but no avail. I then tried to imprison my wife for her sins but she fled to the countryside. After that I heard from a courrier (M20) my wife was pregnant of me. Since I had not touched her in days at that point and my son had been missing for days I told him to be gone or be thrown into the dungeon. He never came back. At the same time I discovered that my sister (F32, now dead, F27 at the time) and my brother (M52, a Bisschop, M47 at the time) also had a deep brother-sister relationship. I wept for another day and another night as I thought God truly had abandoned me. Years passed. I decided to write yet another letter to the Pope asking for a divorce, but yet again no answer. I then felt deeply inspired by Him and wrote a third, but last, letter to the Pope. A Miracle happened and he accepted the divorce. I now am happily married to a Norwegian (F42). Out of nowhere, however, came a letter from my daughter-in-law (F39), who is married to my son (M22) saying that she imprisoned him for she discovered him in his bed with his mother. She asked me what to do with him.

AITA for asking her to put him in her dungeons?

He was supposed to be the one, his children were herculean and Amazonian. And yet he decided to murder a courtier, and more importantly, his brother.

Despite him being the heir to the Kingdom of Castille I cannot in good will hand it to him. So, I did what any normal parent would, banished and disinherited him.

To put salt in the wound, he literally moved on to the courts of the dhunnunid, and converted to a Muslim! As if he couldn't disappoint me any further.

Fuck u Sancho the third, you could've had it all.

With Royal Court, what do you imagine running an Empire will be like?

Honestly, that as your realm grows your own territorial growth will slow. It's always been a trend with historical empires that after reaching a critical mass they become sluggish when it comes to further expansion. Namely due to the fact that it's already extremely expensive and time consuming just keeping the damn empire together in the first place. Especially the culturally diverse empires, who face ethnic and religious tensions much more than empires who're relatively unified in language, culture and religion.

So, paired with my immense hope that the RP aspect will be greatly expanded, with relics and the royal court system and the fact that they're now differentiating languages. I hope that late game empires(or early game, depends on how quickly you can do it) will be much more interesting to simply spend your time administrating than just the usual steamroll through all nations in the world. I know world conquests are fun sometimes, but CK3 has really failed to scratch my itch for a very deep political side to the gameplay. Currently, the Military side of gameplay is great, but I've yet to really feel any deep or major political crises or struggles, and in turn cannot really appreciate or realize when a golden age has come.

I got a romance attempt from a woman. Eventually I decided to make her my lover. I was annoyed it wouldn't let me make her a concubine but oh well. Then I get an event that she and our child and I notice it says she's my stepdaughter. So now my 3rd grandchild is actually my daughter
