I wish differences in military strength affected vassalization acceptance more

like i get that you in your single county with 600 levies to your name are catholic and very determined not to submit to my rule, but the pope doesn't exist anymore because i deposed him and took everything he owned and i'm currently emperor of francia, italia, britannia, scandanavia, hispania, and germany. also i have 80000 troops that can be knocking on your door in a month. or a couple days if i don't bother to raise my levies

Vassals should automatically be involved in wars that threaten to take their land

    Posted: 08 Apr 2021 10:04 AM PDT

One of my vassals recently conquered a new county from outside the realm, and in doing so inherited another war for that very county. But my vassal not actually fighting the war to keep his newly acquired title. So while I'm busy with an invasion of West Francia, I've got some asshole up in the north sieging lands completely unopposed.

Not sure why Paradox continues to leave it this way, as it makes absolutely no sense for a lord to not want to defend his own lands.

Protecting familial land especially as a parent

    Posted: 08 Apr 2021 03:51 AM PDT

In a recent game I got my heir on the throne of England. My heir is my ward and is 6, yet I could not ally him due to him being a claimant to my duchy. I had to watch him lose 4 wars which with my armies reinforcing we could have easily taken down each enemy one by one since he cared more about his claim on a title he is in line to inherit vs possibly losing large parts of England he'll have to fight for. Shouldn't a parent be able to aid a child regardless of an alliance or at least have the option?

    How

    Posted: 08 Apr 2021 08:02 AM PDT

What started as a relatively chill Alfred of Wessex game turned into me forming a de jure Roman Empire in 46 years (and one lifetime!)

    Posted: 08 Apr 2021 09:08 AM PDT

So uh... my concubine inherited the Byzantine Empire I guess

I'm sorry and laughing at the weird random dynastic name in my game.

What's the most incest thing you ever done in the game?

    Posted: 08 Apr 2021 04:25 AM PDT

I started as a character with a daughter, I married my daughter and had a kid, then I divorced my daughter to have her marry our child, then when I grew old and dies, I play as my daughter, she has a kid with her kid, then I divorce the kid and have my kid marry our kid. The same thing over and over again. Also, I made sure we have the pure blooded trait, so there is no bad trait ;3

What do you guys do with content rulers in CK3?

    Posted: 07 Apr 2021 11:04 PM PDT

Once I've consolidated my de jure realm as a content ruler, I am usually disinclined to sieze land around me, instead I spend my time improving my dynasty and court. What do you guys usually work towards in this case?

Some things I focus on include:

Ensuring courtiers are all married. Single women fetch men with high prowess to be knights. Single men get young ladies with high skills.

    Ensuring children have guardians.

Ensuring my own kids/grandkids/etc. are betrothed as to bring more land into the dynasty.

Ingratiating myself to my liege, neighbors or vassals.

Seducing/befriending people wherever i am planning a scheme and might need some co-conspirators.

I still find myself running out of things.to.work towards. I would love it if a future expansion really layered on what you could do at home to improve your court, attract better courtiers and train/influence them to aid in your various endeavors. Hosting contests, mentoring vassals, settling conflicts, collecting items in my treasury, etc. it would be fun to feel "busy" managing my realm, especially in peacetime when I am not marching with my army.

Mediterranean cities in their own region have the wrong look

    Posted: 08 Apr 2021 02:12 AM PDT

Senates, Parliaments, and moots or what I think should be included in the next major dlc

    Posted: 08 Apr 2021 11:52 AM PDT

As of right now both CK2 and CK3 have lacked one of the most critical aspects of medieval government: some sort of deliberative body where nobles of the realm could come together and either help or hinder the king.

Ck2 did a better job of this with the conclave dlc and having a council be able to influence certain things on domestic and foreign policy but it mostly frustrated players(for good reason) because besides the council war declaration(which prevented council members from joining factions) there was mostly no benefit to it and served as an obstacle to the player rather then anything that added to game play.

In real history however parliaments and senates actually had tangible benefits to the monarch something that could be very easily put into CK3. Because in real life as an example, the English parliament had one very powerful ability: to raise taxes for wars. The man at arms system in CK3 is already expansive and having a way to raise additional funds to help you would add a layer of complexity to the game while also helping the player, giving them a reason to forgo some of their power in order get additional funds without sacrificing opinion penalties by changing their vassals contracts.

A Roman senate could do something similar but maybe instead of taxes, the senate could confer prestige and opinion bonuses to the emperor and vassals as a way to please them. Maybe even allowing or preventing a palace coup or faction depending on the senates opinions of the emperor.

To add even more to this system the player should be able to customize the parliament of their kingdom or empire(maybe even abolish it should they choose). The game could have pre set parliaments, for example the English would you know, get the English parliament. While the French could get the estates general and the Byzantines can get the Roman senate etc. etc. each one of these could have their own abilities at the start but could then be modified. Maybe allowing the senate to pass acts of attainder so you can imprison a vassal for nothing more then some trumped up charges your super diplomatic king was able to get through the senate. Or have the estates general be able to increase the levies to the king for national defense.

With these bonuses should come drawbacks as well, such as if the nobles don't like you anymore they could refuse to fund your war against the Holy Roman Empire cause it hasn't worked out the last four times and the nobles are tired of paying for it. Or the senate could not support you and instead agitate for your abdication.

Perhaps most importantly and much like real life, by giving the elites of your kingdom a little say in how things are governed they are less likely to turn to violence or coercion to achieve what they want. A kingdom with a parliament should stop vassals from joining factions and instead let vassals propose legislation or changes through a legal means. And only against a sufficiently tyrannical king who refuses to listen to them should they go and form a faction. Thus by having a parliament a king can add stability to his realm and prevent the generational liberty revolt that players are all to familiar with.

Lastly, each kingdom or empire should have its own parliament. Meaning that one emperor may have to deal with say, the Hungarian parliament while ruling Italy as an absolute monarch meaning that a conquering king must now win support from the local nobles if he wants to stay their king.

Ultimately, a decent king with a supportive parliament should be more powerful then a great king who rules as an absolutist. Thank you for coming to my Ted talk

Please let me duel when romancing

    Posted: 08 Apr 2021 11:23 AM PDT

Paradox added a wonderful duel mechanic but you barely get to use it.

I find myself purposely creating rivalries just so I can have a fun duel.

I find myself in more non-1.3 duels than 1.3 duels, for example:

When I need to duel a romantic competitor while romancing someone.

When I want to duel my son so he stops dueling everyone.

These are currently just simple prowess checks even though the duel mechanic is already in the game.

I would also like to duel when I lead armies but I'll settle for just the previous two.

Please paradox just let me duel
