Posted: 16 Mar 2021 02:43 AM PDT Although I've had my fair share of realms painfully shattered at the worst possible times, I'm starting to believe the predominance of confederate partition in the first half of the game serves a good purpose - keeping the AI from snowballing. AI rulers have the same options available to them as players do and with the right combination of focuses, decisions, and successful wars can bulk up their realm by a lot early on. This isn't ideal early game, as you're gonna have a lot less to do if you're busy dealing with much stronger neighbours. Eventually you'll be pigeonholed into either playing a limited number of playstyles to keep free until you unlock primogeniture or swearing fealty. Now, many will say having to swear fealty to a snowballing realm is part of the fun, and I don't disagree. But even with that, being a vassal to a liege with partition succession laws gives you a lot more freedom and flexibility to play around with the internal politics, because of the chaos of each liege succession and the possibility of playing heirs against each other. I would say there's more fun to be had with that than as a vassal in a relatively stable primogeniture realm. The Byzantine Empire, which utilises pure feudal primogeniture succession in the game rather than its own unique system as it should, is the most glaring example of the problem. They reliably blob every game, occasionally switching ruling houses from revolts but never really facing substantial threats or challenges. Although having one or two realms like that is good for variety in threats, and with the Byzantines there is the justification of historicity, primogeniture from the start means too many realms are likely going to become something like that within a generation. (Though I can't really back this up yet as I haven't tried a mod that unlocks primogeniture early. I'd be happy to see any shared perspectives from someone who has tried that.) Of course if you're feeling like you want a more stable playthrough with secure successions and strong lieges, you can always start in 1066. But having an option to play first through an era of chaotic succession is good. I think in the end, there might be more to lose in terms of gameplay variety from reducing the harshness of confederate partition early-game. That being said, I'd be interested in seeing high partition have a longer period of prevalence in the game as well. Feel free to share your views down below, I would enjoy discussing this mechanic some more. [link] [comments]
Posted: 16 Mar 2021 02:56 AM PDT For all my 1000+ hours of playing this game I have never felt more hatred towards a character than Haraldr. Haraldr has a bloodline in the year 867 which means he needs to get down to buisness so i can takes his genetic code, however, in all my games I have yet to see him impregnate a woman, he can have 3 concubines and a wife, all with the lustful trait and be 16 of age yet this dense motherfucker will not have sex, he refuses to fuck his wives and I'm starting to I think the little shit knows i'm trying to steal his seed and to stop me he has decided to remain celibate. Killing rivals with awful poetry? Posted: 16 Mar 2021 07:20 AM PDT So since in the new patch, the poet trait will allow you to "send scathing poems about your rival's Incompetence, to cause them stress!", could you theoretically "kill" a rival by stressing them out due to your insulting poetry? If so, this is everything I could have dreamed of. [link] [comments]
I miss some of the terminology which was used in CKII for the English localisation. Posted: 16 Mar 2021 11:31 AM PDT I can't speak for other locales, but the language feels dumbed down in CKIII. For example - Cuckolded is now "slept with my wife", Gavelkind is "Partition". Then there were latin phrases all over the place during specific events, but those seem to have been dropped for more generic English phrasing. Character interactions don't really take into account the relationship between them. Landed sons call their fathers "my liege" instead of "dear father" when they communicate. It's even weirder that your subjects don't use "your majesty" for kings or emperors. There are many more examples which I don't remember off the top of my head, but while the "flavour" of the game feels more authentic in general (the music being IMHO one of the biggest upgrades in immersion), these little things kind of take away from the experience.
