Crusader Kings Just finished my first full run on CK3. RP run, in Mallorca, edited the Count's House to House Balti (Alaric's dynasty) as the last living member with the goal or re-establishing the Visigothic Kingdom. Accidentally recreated 500 AD. Not as impressive as some posts in here, but I LOVED it.

    Like Tribal? Go Theocracy!

    Posted: 24 Oct 2020 07:22 AM PDT

Seriously, make Theocratic Vassals for that tribal feel. Their tax and levy contribution is tied to level of devotion, at Paragon of Virtue they provide 55% of both. With a theology focus they will always love you because they are considered clergy.

If you have Temporal Revockable religious doctorine, they count as clergy members and can be made your bishops. Since their ability to have a family is limited they can't form alliances easily. They will almost if not always have a learning focus. Meaning they will be great at converting newly acquired land and dealing with heresies.

They also are unlikely to get intrigue, diplomacy or stewardship perks that would otherwise annoy you.

You never have to worry about their realms splitting due to inherritance. You never have to worry about someone inherriting their land. You never have to worry about their religion changing. You also don't have to worry about 56 children walking around with huge claims on your land.

The border gore with them is limited as well. They are also a lot calmer than other vassals and more likely to focus on economy and building rather than expanding. They are less likely to join factions, less likely to start schemes against you.

Combine with stewardship perks the powerful theocratic vassls will provide 77% levies and 82.5% of their Income.

Get yourself a Holy Site or two that you personally hold and boom. You are unstoppable.

Shouldn't the player-character always have the trait 'possessed' ?

Especially now with personality traits and stress.

When a vassal becomes exempt from both taxes and levies, their liege should get an event to address the situation as soon as the feudal contract can be modified again.

I think it's pretty silly that players are able to weasel out of their vassal obligations so easily and I think an event like this would give reasonable options for the liege:

    1. Grant independence for a prestige and relationship hit
    2. Get a special casus belli to return the feudal contract to the default obligations for a relationship and tyranny hit
    3. Do a diplomacy skill check to get a weak hook on the vassal with a success and a relationship and prestige hit with a failure
    4. Ignore the issue for a relationship boost and prestige hit; vassal gets "privileged vassal" granting additional %prestige
