Please make the dissolving (destruction?) of the Papacy possible to all religions or at least ones that are considered hostile to Catholicism.

    Posted: 16 Oct 2020 06:57 AM PDT

I was playing as the Byzantine Emperor and conquered all holy sites (eventually got the duchy of Latium, so the Pope is unlanded) to mend the Great Schism. Mended the Great Schism, and then the Pope would just call crusades every 5 years (after his defeat) for Jerusalem. I would out number him 15 to 1 in troops. This is literally just 15+ years of wasted time by the Pope. One of these crusades even took 30+ years to finish and I've heard of someone who's had one for 50+ years. So paradox, please make it so that any religion can dissolve the Papacy.

There needs to be a level between king and duke

    Posted: 15 Oct 2020 02:28 PM PDT

For Katepanikions and Marquises and Grand dukes and shit.

Now, I know this would be extremely hard if not impossible to implement.

    BUT

It would be convenient for the current situation I'm in. Therefore, it's necessary for the game.

    Alright, ya got me.

So, I'd played CK2 a few years back. Played the tutorial and found it unintuitive, confusing and the whole experience was just not fun. So that was that.

Recently though I'd been thinking of giving CK another go. Seeing the reviews, not to mention all the ridiculous stuff going on in this place, plus a healthy dose of wanting some more medieval life having finished Kingdom Come for the umpteenth time led me to giving CK3 a shot.

And you know what? As I started the tutorial in Ireland those familiar feelings game back. Too many menus, too many options, why the fuck can't I declare war when my armies are still around?!

But then, something happened. My motherfucking cousin in Dublin decided that right after I'd finished a particularly difficult siege was the best time to contest a few of my claims. This led to a humiliating defeat, a wounded King and a dead brother.

    And I took that personally.

Cooling my jets for a few years I decided I needed allies. Marrying off and betrothing relatives to anyone of influence as fast as my wife could pump them out (honestly guys, MVP my wife) Dublin cousin wasn't so slick when England and France came to join me in passing him around like a badly used porno mag.

One conquest later and erect with victory I now seek only to unite the Kingdom of Ireland to pass down to my heir. Not my son though, he's too busy impregnating courtiers. Grandson though? A much better proposition.

Anyway, it's pretty safe to say I am fucking in.

Witchcraft shouldn't need to be a secret in a religion that allows it.

    Posted: 15 Oct 2020 07:20 PM PDT

I want the witches coven thing for my house, but unfortunately thanks to generations of concubines it's basically impossible. There's like a thousand people in my house and while I'm sure many are witches, I need to know they're witches by knowing the secret or they're revealed. 60 percent of them!

Why the hell they hide their witch secret in a pro witch religion I created, I don't know! If I die I need to start over so it kinda seems impossible.

It seems like maybe the only viable way is a first or second generation learning character. Or maybe if I kill a lot of people to keep the house small.

I wish there was a button I could just press to say 'all witches out yourselves now' or I dunno maybe we all go to witch con and meet each other like a pilgrimage or something.

    Don't believe your map

    Posted: 16 Oct 2020 01:20 AM PDT

I recently listened to the 'History of Byzanitum' podcast, in one episode he brings up something which I believe really is missing from ck3. He's talking about the Byzantine borders and the massive difficulties the country had trying to extend it's influence into mountainous territory, armies sent into Bulgaria would be extremely vulnerable crossing mountain passes. These would repeatedly get ambushed and annihilated (like Battle of Pliska, Gates of Trajan). Guerilla tactics dominated here.

The conquest of Bulgaria by Basil the Bulgarslayer took about 32 years (!) of constant warfare, and the war ended in more of a corporate merger with the emperor paying leading nobles, than with an outright conquest. Later direct control in such territories was limited to a few forts and towns with garrisons.

I think some changes need to be made for the borders, something that could show influence extending to natural barriers like mountains, large rivers or thick forests. Maybe some reworking to the 'province control'. Another thing are the constant Jihad by muslim forces raiding Anatolia from the bases in Cilicia, and the pirate bases in ex. Crete could pose a threat to Constantinople, these are pretty much absent from the game. The House of War in Islam made constant holy war on their territory, volunteers from the Islamic world flocked to Cilicia whereas the Byzantines were always running low on manpower.

Later after the Caliphate collapsed and the Macedonian dynasty started retaking these territories, the mountains to the south of Cilicia would be a new natural border, with Antioch as a large forward outpost. With the exeption of creating tributary bufferstates they never tried to annex the former provinces in the south like Palestine because how difficult it would be guarding these as there were no other natural borders there. Instead some Byzantine rulers like John I Tzimiskes raided muslim territories including sacking cities like Damascus for loot. Maybe the game could add an unlockable 'raid' ability to the Martial tree?

The Armenian mountains served a similar purpose, and when these were lost it allowed Turks to ride in and devastate all of Anatolia. +Most people in Byzantium lived around western Anatolia, not the territory that is modern day Greece.
