Some random CK3 tips Posted: 15 Oct 2020 06:35 AM PDT Here's some random tips that I wish someone would have told me when I started playing, most of them can definitely be "found" in-game but I don't believe they're a part of the tutorial, at least I didn't notice them until some time has passed. If you have any questions, corrections or feedback, leave a comment! When declaring a war, after selecting a casus belli there's a button below to select which territory you would like to target. Since you can't "hot-click" the territories on the map I just assumed every casus belli equaled one valid territory, but there's normally many to choose from. Learn to use the F1-F8 (or whatever) keys, as they'll make it a lot quicker to get your character sheet up, or your council, men-at-arms etc. Keep an eye on the activities on the bottom right, especially after pop up events like heresy in your realm. You may see a large amount of vassals converting, and if you're well liked enough you may be able to instantly convert them back. What is a "criminal", really? If you want to imprison someone, remember that there's way to make someone a criminal. One of the easiest ways of doing this may be to denounce someone as the dynasty head, giving you an instant reason to imprison them. This is especially useful if someone's claiming the throne, imprisoning them and executing them may be worth it in an emergency, even a -30 opinion hit may be better than a claimant war you can't win. No claimant, no problem. If your vassals are unhappy (keep an eye on the plots and "rebellions" view) and a civil war is looming, try to pick them off one by one before they have a chance to rebel. You may have 100% imprisonment possibilities against some of them (and imprisoned leaders cannot rebel, you don't need to execute them), or you may even have revocation reasons that you can press after buying some of the other vassals off, provoking a "mini-civil war" where you can win and replace some of your angry vassals. As a head of faith, excommunicating and denouncing the claimant will also make the conspirators really think twice, if you can. Always max out your men-at-arms as soon as you can. When at war, if you can, avoid using levies completely by clicking "raise local army" when paused, then CTRL+CLICK to move immediately and stop raising levies on top. Remember that men-at-arms insta-spawn with no penalty (levies do give a penalty sometimes), so you can easily disband them from one edge of your empire and have them pop up somewhere else. Alliances and truces are tied to people, not titles, so if you want to get rid of either of them, you can murder the title holder. Meaning, you can murder-plot an enemy to force a new war, or murder-plot their strongest ally before declaring. If you are playing tribal with a human sacrifice religion, the easiest way to get piety by far is to use the casus belli for getting people to sacrifice. They'll give about 50 piety each, and people with impressive titles may give up to ~200 each. Also, losing the war will still give piety (but don't enter a war you're not sure you can win), and battles seem to give way more war score than normally. If you can raid, raid constantly. Always target smaller countries with high loot values, as bigger countries will raise armies and possibly kick your ass. As soon as the raid marker appears, you can click move to another city, and they won't move until done raiding, making it somewhat less micro-intense. Having armies with low supply or even starving is really bad. Avoid this by splitting up your armies, as they will resupply in any friendly (owned or occupied) territort as long as they don't exceed the supply limit, or in extreme cases even disband them to stop losing people for no reason. Understand your primary title: if you are in the early game where titles are split among your heirs, you probably don't want to create new titles that are equal to your primary title. So if you're a king, don't create (or destroy existing) kingdom titles, if you're an emperor make sure it's your only empire etc. This way, any division on death will happen "below" you, and your player heir will still be the single point above all. This starts being valid advice from "partition" forward, as "confederate partition" will create these new titles. Also, as soon as you get the possibility to "designate heir", use this to pick your player heir with the best stats. Large areas of non-compatible religions or cultures is tricky, and the bigger it is the more likely it is that you'll see rebellion. If they rebel and have multiple armies on the map, click on the leader of the rebellion and take note of which region he's "located" in. Attack that army, and he will die if you win (as rebels never flee in my experience), and when he's dead the entire rebellion will fall apart (100% war score). Keep tabs on your vassals, consider if they're unhappy for avoidable reasons (wants a vassal, perhaps a council position), and make sure they haven't converted themselves, or an heir of theirs was already the wrong religion. If a vassal is of your religion and likes you, but has a child with the wrong religion (common after conquest + forced conversion), they are almost certain to accept a guardianship of their heir and child, and you can then raise them as your own religion/culture. Daughters are normally good for alliances with larger powers, but if you can't find any decent alliances you may want to filter on "matrilineal" instead and find a match with good traits, that way you'll get a bigger dynasty instead of feeding another dynasty. If you got a nice alliance out of a marriage, consider attacking someone that was previously too strong. As long as your ally likes you, you'll just pay some prestige and they may win the war for you. Make sure your ally is not already at war, and isn't really far away. Keep tabs on your player heir, if you want someone else you can change inheritance laws, disinherit them (as dynasty head) or maybe even kill them depending on your relation. Always educate your children, especially heirs. You may want to select a guardian with better skills than yours, but raising them yourselves will help you control the traits they get. Aim for traits that match your play style and doesn't go against your religion. Host parties as often as you can, click the "remind me" box to get a notification every time you can. If you want to kill yourself you can either attempt suicide, or more easily, do stuff that really stresses you out. For example, being compassionate/just may be unwanted as a human sacrifice tribal ruler, so a way of killing yourself may be just executing a lot of people, causing massive stress and death. submitted by /u/CYNICAL_COMMENT [link] [comments] |
