    Feeling very bittersweet about tonight and the release of CKIII

    So, the last conversation I had with my little brother consisted of him begging me to start a new game of CK2 with him. It was our favorite game to play together. We always had each others' backs and not once, over thousands of hours of play, did we ever betray each other. The only wars we ever declared were to appease the people when our cultures or regions clashed, and we always made sure to orchestrate the wars to the benefit of both of us.

    He was way better at fighting wars than I was. His army was always top notch, his strategies for conquering vast swaths of land superior in every way. But the boy could not make money to save his life. So, being my Midas touched self, I kept him out of bankruptcy and he kept me from being invaded. He was truly the best ally and the best friend I ever had.

    The last time we spoke, he called to ask if I wanted to start a new game. I couldn't do it, because it was the night before my semester started and I had to be at class at 6 in the morning. I knew there was no way I could start a game at 11 and be at class in time, so I told him we could start a new game that weekend. He gave me a hard time about it for a few minutes, because he was bored and just wanted to conquer some land with his big brother, but he understood.

    A half hour later, he got hit by a car crossing the street and was rendered brain dead on impact. He died a few days later, saving multiple lives with his organ donation. He truly was, and still is, and will always be, my hero.

    I sobbed for hours when the first trailer for CKIII released. It was made all the more difficult that it is being released a few days before our birthdays (we were born exactly 2 years and 364 days apart). I want so badly to tell him that I got him a copy for his birthday, and spend our two days of celebration at home, eating mom's friend chicken and conquering the world together. I want more than anything to celebrate the big 3-0 by giving him "gifts" so he can hire mercenaries because he pissed off the French, again. I want to hear him yell when his second son is an attractive genius with super high stats, but his first son was just rendered incapable by blunt force trauma to the head. I want to do all these things with him in this game, and I know that I can't.

    I'm really excited to play CKIII. I can't wait to see how many hours I'll sink into it. I can't wait to see what new hell Paradox has concocted for my sleep schedule and my sanity. But clicking play that first time is going to be really, really fucking hard.

Having so many of you honor my little brother in your games is the best tribute I could have ever hoped to see. I'm about to click play with a smile on my face because you, as a community, helped me remember why I love this series so very much.

    There's no way I can thank you all enough, but your love and empathy will mark today as best day I've had since Lucas passed. I hope you know that I'll never forget the day my brother became a Crusader King.
