Sometimes maxed out hospitals DO best the Plague, no matter what self-confident Redditors tell you.

    Posted: 12 Mar 2020 01:48 AM PDT

I've seen, time and time again, people say here that hospitals only delay the plague from hitting and result in your capital being the only province suffering from it after it's gone everywhere else. And while yes, that is always a risk, it is not an absolute. In my experience, in fact, it comes out pretty close to 50/50 on games where the Plague skips my capital entirely and I'm able to sit it out with my gates open, vs the described situation.

I feel like many of you must have experienced the hospital failing once or twice, figured that's what always happens, and then never bothered with them again. But as someone who maxes out his capital hospital every single campaign, I can guarantee you that it works at least often enough to make the investment worth it.

It wouldn't make sense, with how disease spreads in the game mechanics, if it was 100% one way or the other. Every epidemic has a pulse, where on each beat the game runs an RNG calculation based on the disease resistance of any healthy county bordering a diseased one. The longer the disease is present in neighboring counties, the more likely it is that the county in question will get infected at some point. But it's still just rolling the dice each time, not building toward an inevitable conclusion.

And even if it doesn't work out.... well, that's still your capital getting hit right as the Plague is ready to leave the rest of your realm. Which leads to my back-up strategy. If you've got a Mega-Empire, it might have already left your Easternmost reaches, where you might even directly hold a trade post or two if you're playing messy with your demesne (I tend to do this anyway, to snag as many demesne trade posts as I can). So that means that you can sit out most of the Plague in your de jure capital, gates open, while keeping an eye on the epidemic screen - and the day your capital turns red (assuming it does) you can immediately switch to one of the eastern provinces where the plague has either moved on or is about to do so, and then switch back once your regular capital is clear (assuming it's your de jure capital of course).

Who would be interested in joining a ck2 multiplayer discord with an RP focus?

    Posted: 12 Mar 2020 05:59 AM PDT

After looking around I'm surprised it doesn't exist. I know it exists for HOI4 and EU4 but not the game with RPG elements? Only rules would be not be a dick and play similar to your character's personalities. Any takers?

With notice of the crusade and the papacy having its capital at the border of my empire in England, i raided the pope until the war started. After that, i took the city within a day or 2. The pope sent a peace request and i won within a week.

How to get independence from the HRE?

    Posted: 12 Mar 2020 05:17 AM PDT

I've started in the 1066 bookmark (specifically, the bookmark with William in England) and I've formed the Kingdom of Romagna in central Italy but I'm still part of the HRE.

What would be the best approach to independence? Faction? Fight with a ton of alliances?

The story of Kaiser Amadeus, or dont give up on the bad seed

The story of my most memorable character, its a bit cheesy, but next time Im gonna write about a sister-fucker, i promise.

    https://preview.redd.it/omth6oy4s9m41.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=5ae7a4e173bc673ced65475876b11e050489ce6e

Little Amadeus was never meant for the throne. His predecessor Viceroy Johann was a lazy, content man. He ruled over the viceroyalty of Bavaria and Italy in the name of the german emperor. His only achievement was that he lived for a long time, he went to Hell at the respectable age of 75. While Johann enjoyed an easy life, his family around him fell like flies, war, assassination, disease, the usual. So Amadeus took over at the tender age of 11. He was the great grandson of Johann, and he was trained as a steward, and definitely not as a king.

He almost immediately got sick, and he was on his deathbed, so his court physician had only one option: cutting the child's left leg off. Amadeus the Unlikely was already crippled, but it got worse. By the time he reached 16 half his vassals were in open rebellion. Gavelkind was all the rage back then. He managed to win, and at the age of 17 dysentery happened. This time his trusty doctor, von Chopovitz (seriously, fuck this guy) took an arm, and his sanity.

The young Viceroy had exactly one arm, and one leg, heard voices, he was howling at the Moon, famed adventurer Glitterhoof took over diplomacy, and most of the vassals were considering rebellion again, it seemed like it's the end of the Babenberg dynasty. Then his bethroded grew up. She was a nobody, a daughter of some baroness from Bulgaria, but she was also one of the most beautiful woman in the world.

By some miracle this woman had the patience and honor of a saint, and slowly they fell in love with each other. And then suddenly the voices disappeared. Amadeus awoke from the nightmare, and went on to greatness. He defeated the german Kaiser, earning his independence, claimed most of France for Bavaria, establishing a new empire, claimed Burgundy as a tributary state. Half armed, and half legged he personally led the crusaders, and liberated the kingdom of Aquitaine, showing everybody that though he might not have all his limbs, he most certainly has balls.

When he turned 37 his wife died of a heart attack. He was devastated. For a year he had innumerable romantic adventures, trying to numb the pain. Merely 2 years later he followed his wife to the grave.
