My Old Gods to End Game

So decided I'd try to record my game, though I'm now in the year 1028 so first few generations will be brief. I will try to get a brief synposis of the rulers rule and a snapshot of the world at the time of their death. However, starting late so no snapshots of the first 250 yearsUltimate goal is to finally finish a full playthrough and get as many bloodlines as a can. Game is on Ironman, and as a "house rule" only bloodlines my dynstay creates I can use. (So no super breeding all the historical/children of destiny bloodlines into my character)

Ruler 1Jarl Tryggve Dover (Ruled 9 Years)Tryggve did nothing special with his life. He simply conquered the dutchy of Vestlander for his son, Hjalmar. He was slain in combat and succeeded by his son Hjalmar.

    Ruler 1

Ruler 2Jarl Hjalmar "silvertongue" (Ruled 19 Years)Hjalmar became bit of a local warlord and raider. Spent his life raiding around Scandanavia kidnapping people for ransom and blot sacrifices and build up the dutchy of Vestlander for his son Solvi. He died to a disagreement with a meal was succeeded by his son Solvi.Elsewhere in the world: Karl took the thrones of West Francia, East Francia, Middle Francia, Burgandy, Saxony, Baravia, Aquatine and Italy, does not form an empire. Lost Middle Francia to a faction for Theoeric's claim.

    Ruler 2

Ruler 3King Solvi "The Bloodhound" (Ruled 49 Years)Solvi was the first ruler that looked to leave his mark on the world. He pioneered overseas raiding, managed to get ships to raid overseas about 20 years before the start of the viking age. He conquered half of Ireland and controlled coasts between Ireland and Scotland, he became feared through his exploits as a ruthless warlord (Bloodline 1: win 15 foreign wars). Then rising up through the ranks of the Germanic warrior lodge he led a legendary journey through the Byzantium Empire. (Bloodline 2, warrior lodge hounded blood) He began the conquest of southern Italy and forming a tribal kingdom there. (Where I plan to raid and warrior lodge bloodline hunt until the crusades) Creates the custom kingdom of Vesterlander. Solvi died of cancer and was succeeded by his grandson Bjorn.Elsewhere in the world: Karl dies and central Europe starts to split into his successor states and Galvekind does it's magic. The Umayyad's conquer all of Iberia and march south to take Africa. Ragnar Lodbrok reforms the Germanic faith, places a random priest as the Fylkir.

    Ruler 3

Ruler 3King Bjorn "Old Spirit" Ruled for 42 YearsBjorn, finished his grandfather's goal of establishing a great tribal kingdom in the Mediterranean Sea, he conquerors all of the Kingdom of Sicily, minus the dutch of Sicily. (Staying tribal so I can switch between warrior lodges and hunt for bloodlines) Bjorn takes a concubine from deep Africa and adpots her African religion and joins the African warrior lodge. Continues raiding across the Mediterranean hunting for rare artifacts of the christian faith (Which I plan to adopt come the crusades) He manages to secure the Iron Crown of Lombardy from the duke of Lombardy, the Crown of Thorns and Image of Edessa from the Pope, the Holy Prepuce from some random mayor, and a Jade Dragon from his random emir on the coast. He and his son Kolbjorn rise through the ranks and begin call to glory for the legendary journey through the Abbasid Empire. Unfortunately for Bjorn, he becomes wounded in a raid, and he develops cancer. In an effort to stay alive to finish the journey (It was only halfway complete by now) Bjorn takes a radical treatment from his trust 19 skill renowned physician, and loses his leg. Still tenacious as ever the one legged Bjorn, made the legendary journey only to be mauled by a bear and died. His son Kobjorn however, completes the journey and established bloodline 3 (warrior lodge, hounded blood again) for House Dovre. Bjorn was slain by Sheikh Shamir and was succeeded by his grandson Varian.Elsewhere in the world: The Abbasid caliphate falls a decadence revolt, the Uyyamads become the dominate muslim kingdom. They establish the Empire of Hispania and begin their conquest north taking the kingdom of Aquaitaina. The slavic religion is reformed. (Don't see the AI pull this off often) The children's crusade is successful and the Kingdom of Jerusalem is established.

    Ruler 4

Ruler 4King Varian "The Eternal Thunder" Rued for 64 YearsPosthumously known as Saint Varian "the Godbearing"Varian was known for his fickle faith, until he firmly chose Catholicism. As a tribal king he switched faiths many times. He renounced the African religion of his father and joined the newly reformed Slavic religion and joined their warrior lodge. However the time of the crusades approached, and he was called to join this new great warfare on a scale that has not been seen before. While staying within the slavic lodge he converted to Catholicism to join the crusade for East Francia, estbalishing his kinsman Kjartan on the throne. Kjartan formed bloodline 4 for house Dovre. (Crusader Lord, won first crusade) Kjartan's daughter would be married to Varian's son to weave that bloodline into the main branch. He completed the legendary journey through the Byzantium Empire and established bloodline 5 for House Dovre (Warrior Lodge, promote better commanders) Wanting to secure his holdings in southern Italy Varian releases his vassals on the british isles and his ancestral dutchy of Vesterlander, shortly after his still germanic kinsman usurps the Kingdom of Vesterlander. (Was a custom kingdom and only dejure land was the dutchy of Vesterlander) Varian immediately establishes the Kingdom of Stromgarde (Custom kingdom) and adopts feudalism. Varian leads raids around the Mediterranean to the point he has so much money he decides to build 4 great works. The Bevento Mausoleam, The Salerno Palace, The Taranto habor, and Great Lighthouse of Leece. He switchs from Catholicism to Romuva to join their warrior lodge. He rises to the ranks of hero and begins the legendary gathering there. The progress bar is about 30% full when the pope calls another crusade. Varian switches back to Catholicism to join the crusade (To get that double crusade win bloodline) and gains a since of zealotry. Unfortunately this causes him to be removed as head of the Rumova warrior lodge and he is unable to finish that legendary journey. (Sucks there was no option NOT to get zealous, would've nabbed two warrrior bloodlines with one guy) The crusade for Saxony is won, and house Dovre gains another throne. Being such a righteous christian (When it benefits him) Varian earns the Crusader Lord bloodline (Win 2 crusades), bloodline 6 for house Dovre. Varian spents the rest of his days as a pious christian, joining the Benedictine order. After he dies the pope declares him Saint Varian "The Godbearing" estbalishing Bloodline 7 for house Dovre (Monastic Order Saintly Bloodline) Varian lived a very long life and died comatose in bed and succeeded by his Grandson Varian III.Elsewhere in the world: The Kingdom of Jerusalem and the custom Kingdom of Anjou end up being the same guy through inheritance. I'm not sure exactly how it happened but the Kingdom of Jerusalem went away and the Duchy of Jerusalem became dejure of the Kingdom of Anjou.

Ruler 5King Varian II "The Undefeated" Rulfed for 23 YearsKing Varian II had a short reign, most of it in regency he raided around waiting for the next Crusades to start. (To get the x2 Crusade winner bloodline) However a few years into his reign the Black Death appeared. Desperate to avoid it Varian II raided around the world wherever the plague was not. However I slipped up and the plague crept into the province he was raiding, he got both scurvy and the plague and died shortly after. Varian II died to the dreaded plague, and was succeeded by his son Varian III.Elsewhere in the world: The black death ravishes the know world.

    https://preview.redd.it/i7hj302hkol41.jpg?width=731&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=48b81dbe0c8e28d4b59fa9543fdec5fdb1092ac1

Ruler 6King Varian III "The Hammer" Ruled for 39 yearsKing Varian III inherits the throne of Stromgard as a child. During his regency the pope calls another Crusade for the Kingdom of Burgandy currently held by the Uyyamad empire. (Which was not going to happen, we had like 40% power agaisnt the Sunni's) Varian convinces the pope to change the crusade target to the newly established Shia Calph for Andalusia. (He had no backup, only like 8k troops, which we go from 40% power to like 280%) However, some dastardly merchant republic hijacks the crusade and targets Byzantium. Being a child Varian does not have the piety to convince the pope otherwise, again. However looking for unlanded dynstay members with children I realize I can push for Latin throne with Varian III's uncle Ulfir (Saint Varian's Brother) and create the destroyer of byzantium bloodline. While Ulfir was a lowly courtier I secured a matriinal marriage of his granddaughter to King Varian III. The Crusade is successful, the Byzantium Empire Shatters and Ulfir creates Bloodline 7 for House Dovre.Varian spends the rest of his reign building up the kingdom of Stromgard and raiding while waiting for the next Crusade. (My goal was to crusade for Jerusalem then work towards the Outremer, then restore Rome. Byzantium is gone but can take the Latin Empire, destroy it then reform Byzantium into Rome. However, the Anjou/Jerusalem situation complicates that the King of Anjou/Jerusalem lost most of Jerusalem to two different Sunni Kingdoms, managing to hold onto the dutchies of Outrejourdain and Jerusalem long enough they become DeJure of the Kingdom of Anjou. And now the Kingdom of Jerusalem no longer exsists, and it's land are held between the Abyssina Sultan and Syria Sultan. So I cannot crusade for Jerusalem (And I can't get that sweet Crusader Helmet) Varian calls for the pope to launch a crusade to take back Anjou (Jerusalem)The Crusade is successful and Varian III puts his son Varian IV as the Crusader King of Crusader Anjou. King Varian becomes a Crusader Lord and establishes Bloodline 8 for House Dovre (Win 2 crusades) When the Crusade was about 50% through and I was for sure the #1 contributor I started to pass all my artifacts to Varian IV as I planned to play as him now. However with the cooldown I didn't get to pass off all my artifacts and fortune off. I did manage to pass off the Iron Crown of Lombary, Crown of Thorns, Image of Edessa, Jade Dragon, Holy Prepuce, and my Tier 3 armor. However the Sunni's give up when the warscore is like 70% and I didn't manage to pass of all my artifacts, I lost several minor crusader artifcats, nail of the true cross, my tier 3 sword, and Dynasty books**At this point I leave Stromgarde and play as King Varian IV**Elsewhere in the world: A Slavic Child of Destiny is conquering all of Britannia and is probably going to form that Empire. The Black Death finishes is march across the world.

    Ruler 6

Ruler 7 King Varian "The Protector" (Current Ruler)King Varian's first order of business was to reclaim the ancient lands of Jerusalem and through several holy wars, he secures the borders and establishes the Kingdom of Jeursalem, he is now King of Jerusalem and Crusader Anjou. About 15 years into his rule his Father dies, leaving Varian's brother on the Stromgarde throne and Varian IV with a weak claim to the kingdom. However Varian IV"s grandfather Latin Emperor Ulfir dies and Varian IV gets a strong claim to the Latin Empire.

Current plans: gain a 3rd Kingdom to create a custom Empire, then take the Latin Empire and destroy that title so I can re-create Byzantium and eventually the Roman Empire. But not before forming the Empire of the Outremer. Since you cannot create Outremer as Byzantium. And take Cyprus to establish a vassal merchant republic there. And keep my eye on the Ark of the Covenant and try to grab that when I can. It's with some sunni emir in Abyssinia currently.
    So future plans for empires:
Custom EmpireLatin Empire (To destroy the title, can't destroy a primary title so only way to destroy an empire is to have it as your secondary title, custom empire is primary)
Then Create the Outremer (To get that Bloodline, then destroy custom empire)
Then recreate Byzantium (Can't do it if Latin Empire Exists, which will be destroyed)
Then Create Roman Empire (To get that bloodline, then destroy Outremer)

How I learned to stop worrying and love the mongol invasion

    Posted: 09 Mar 2020 01:29 AM PDT

Its the early 13th century. Christendom stands uncontested, vikings are catholic, hispania stands strong and proud, even the coptic kingdom of kemet has accepted Jesus as their lord and savior. Karoling Francia and hungarian Carpathia are so powerful that nobody can deny the power of the Christ god And so it happened that the Pope thought it would be HILARIOUS to launch a crusade against some petty king south of the Sahara. And while the emperor of Carpathia concurred, that throwing 200k holy warriors at 3 camels and their caretaker would be pretty funny, the 120k mongolian screamers not far from his borders would be a tad bit more appropriate target. And so the marketing team of Rome decided the slogan should be ''we will be home before christmas'' and the 7th crusade was on its way. Later the marketing boys stated, that they never specified which christmas.

In the year of our Lord 1223 tens of thousands of holy warriors started marching against the vile Temujin and his hordes... half of these holy warriors died on the way there and the rest were slaughtered with ease. But as ive said christendom was powerful a100k dead kids was meaningless, and so the crusade went on... and on... on.

In 1237 the great Temujin died. The cause of death was sheer annoyance, or severe stress as they say. His last words were: I keep slaughtering them, but they jut keep coming! WHY DONT THEY FUCKING STOP COMING?!

50 more years later A lot has happened the aztecs invaded Lotharingia, England, Scandinavia, but the soldiers of Christ were busy in the east. Generations of crusade beneficiaries died landless, kings and emperors ruled and died without being crowned. But the crusade went on, until in 1291 the carpathian armies finally defeated the mongol hordes in a not very glorious battle, at this point the khan had only 10k troops, constant war does that I suppose.

    PS: Crusades are bullshit.

My short but great rule as a new CK 2 player.

    Posted: 09 Mar 2020 08:39 AM PDT

So I started as a count on Spain owning Lugo I believe it was called an a costal province as well. I started by taking my du jure claim on Santiago next to me. Then I focused on building my army and taxes up. Worked great, but my king met going to war against the muslims that held most of Spain. After like 50 years of war he pretty much lost all his land. Only my dukedom remained besides his capital in Leon.

Next I swore fealty to the Muslim king or sultan whatever he was, lol. I then proceeded to continue expanding land. I took a few more places. Had an army of 3k and was racking in money. My leader was also not the best on stats but he did he thing! Finally he died of cancer and passed to his son. Which I was okay with because his stats were nice.

His son ended up being a damn satanist, lol. So I rolled with it, and played into it. He continued in his father's steps but with a darker side. I took a few more places and had 2 dukdoms at this point. My only concern was that he had no children. Finally after like 16 years and stress he knocked his wife up, who luckily had a son. But after all these years serving Lucifer it caught up. He died pretty young 44 compared to his pops 67. It was passed to his son.

First thing was to switch my religion over to the same has my king Muslim. But I kept his cultural the same. I decided to take some more territory. Had 3 wives and was excited to expand. Went to war and was doing great, then civil war started out. I got caught in a random battle and was killed no heir..... thus ended the dynasty....

Great experience and had fun, was pretty upset he died in battle.... oh well time to go again!

    Fuck you, Germany

    Posted: 09 Mar 2020 09:03 AM PDT

Germany just did the Worst thing ever.

The Sunni Muslims called a Jihad against my liege, the Byzantine emperor. Nothing new, we fought them off in the past, we can do it again.

Suddenly Germany declares war on us, for someone stupid province in the Balcans. My Liege sends his whole freaking army over there, losing him the Jihad.

After Germany was weakened a lot by us..... THE SHIA CALLED A JIHAD AGAINST THEM. And they continued fighting us over this goddamn province. Until their armies were dead and they surrendered to the Shia.

Tldr: Germany just won the Muslims two Jihads. They are Catholic.

Edit: now France converted to Islam too.

Is it just me or are just few people playing as Muslims in this game, compared to other religions?

    Posted: 09 Mar 2020 05:49 AM PDT

I might be suffering from perception bias here but at least to me it looks like there are only a few posts about Muslim characters or playthroughs on here, at least compared to other religions. To my knowledge Paradox actually collects data about how and when and with which characters players start their games but have they ever published anything that would support or contradict my perception?

I mean it's obvious that players might a) start with characters and/or within regions they are familiar with or b) it might be more of a challenge to reform pagan religions, raiding enemies for loot or simply make your way out of a hopeless situation, and I'm certainly guilty of all that as well.

That said, I wanted to try a Muslim run myself, not necessarily as a King or Emperor from the start so I can slowly learn how things go. Any recommendations? Apart from Mu'nis of Galilee, that one might be a bit too tough for now...

    Religion idea: Syncretism

    Posted: 09 Mar 2020 05:00 AM PDT

Honestly, this would require a more dynamic religion system than the game supports. But what I'd like to see is some sort of syncretism. Two religions spend a lot of time in contact, and one or both start picking things up from the other. Up until Christianity was well-developed, most religions tended to tolerate each other in neighboring countries, or even in the same country. They even borrowed each others ideas (such as Judaism taking the Flood and Heaven/Hell from the Persians). The Romans did a lot of this, stealing whole gods…

At the extreme, the 2 merge into a new religion, with some characteristics taken from each. Of course, this would make a complete hash of CK2's strict hierarchy of religions, as the new one would be considered descendant of both, which could easily be in different groups. Maybe it would stay in the group it is most like, or would be in the more tolerant group (i.e., not Christianity, Islam, or any religion with Proselytizing or Dogmatic nature). Or maybe this would have to create a new group altogether, as nobody in either group considers it even a proper heresy.

At a lesser degree of syncretism, one would pick up some stuff from the other, and become a heresy of its current parent group.
