AI Egypt converted to Sabianism (Dualist). I had no part in this. My first time seeing an AI Muslim nation outside Iberia convert away from Islam.

    World Emperor

    I did it!

I started up Iron Man-mode as the custom character, Duke Roy of Sjaelland of House Dragonborn (Norse and Asatrú), in 867. Picked Intelligent as one of my traits and focused on that during breeding. I started out by conquering the Asatrú territories in Scandinavia. I then conquered East Francia, converted to catholicism and made the pope make me Holy Roman Emperor.

Then I created a new Christian religion (Draconism) and conquered enough land to create the Roman Empire and reclaim Rome. My vassals conquered neighboring vassals aggressively, while I focused on big chunks. As my empire grew, the Communion-notifications became tedious, so I created Neo-Draconism and focused on keeping vassals in check until the religion spread.

My empire suddenly grew big enough to the point that I started thinking I could have a shot at world domination, which was not my original intent. I actually just wanted to play to the end for once. Hit a good one, though! I kept my vassals under 70 by giving them more and more kingdoms - made sure they were kingdoms in different empires. I arranged the correct marriages and had more than enough gold to buy opinion every time the heir took over after character death.

The rise of Genghis Khan was pretty fun. I let him take over most of east Asia, but by the time we'd both become old and his borders were closing up on mine, I beat the shit out of him with a maxed out army including Varangian Veterans (fave). Then I murdered him - had to grease a lot of hands repeatedly for that. The "Genghis Who?"-popup was pretty cool. Then I just went on to conquer his kingdoms and kill his descendants until they ran out of steam.

Last really big area was all of India and the empires directly north and northeast - one of them was Tibet, I think. I got the 3 Indian empires through marriage and a LOT of murdering. Also had to step in and join wars a double digit amount of times to protect my heir's rule over the empires (he inherited India before I died/used Consolamentum). But it went well and I basically just needed the southern part of the African areas and everything north and northeast of India.

I've never really used/known about the "Forced Vassalization"-skill, but it really came in handy towards the end. Also did quite a few crusades. Creating empires to be able to seize de jure lands also really helps. Other than that I basically kept to the Intrigue-tree and used the kidnapping-trick along with murders and the odd full-on war here and there. By the end, my army was about 450k, so it's been hellish lag every war I had to fight without kidnapping. I mostly just raised my men at arms, but they could take half a year to raise, and it always lagged a lot.

I haven't played to the end yet. I'm kind of hoping you get some kind of score, but I haven't checked. I can post pictures of the ending if anyone likes. Also hate that I couldn't change it back from "Empire of the Draconic Empire" in any way. Even if I renamed it "Roman Empire" again it would suddenly just say "Empire of the Roman Empire".

So, I've seen both points of view fairly often and now I'm eager to know which one is more common?

    Posted: 29 Oct 2021 11:28 AM PDT

I am thinking of a fun playthrough were I start as Hasteinn and go straight for the pope, or Sardina. I wanna work my way to the King of Italy and then would love to reform the Roman Empire as an Asatru Is that something that I can do if I leave the Norse Culture group once I take over Italy?

    Can't find the enemy army?

    Posted: 28 Oct 2021 11:01 PM PDT

I just discovered a new useful trick: search your war enemy's court until you find one of their knights. Click on the knight and it will bring you to the location of their army, even if it's in a county you can't actually see. I'm sure I'm not the first person to figure this out, but hope it helps someone else!
