You literally just get saddled with 50 pre-existing vassal contracts from hooks the previous Emperors gave away that screw you over, nobody is ever happy so you're putting down rebellions in every corner of the map constantly and everyone is constantly trying to kill you. However, there's no easy way to NOT become the Emperor unless you actively spend time nonsensically sabotaging your relationship with the other electors.

I wish there was the ability to abdicate or refuse to ascend the throne.
