Things I've learned that broke the game and made it too easy Posted: 12 Jun 2021 03:50 AM PDT Perhaps this is all general knowledge but I've seen a few playthroughs on youtube and those people never did any of this stuff. This is all kind of grey area optimization, not outright "abuse" like I'd view the North Korea or kidnap + war exploits. These are definitely not things the devs considered so they are definitely exploits and make the game too easy, but then again it's really hard not to do it, it feels weird playing the "honest" way. I'm posting this more in hopes the devs cut these loopholes in future updates. 1 Free knights and claimants Use marriage of courtiers as a loophole to replace inviting knights to court. This saves you a massive amount of money and gives far better knights than what you'd get through paying for them. Just go to player search, narrow to court, adult, unmarried and then for all the women do matrilineal marriages and sort by prowess. Likewise, any unmarried men in your court should be married off ASAP so if they die in battle you have now have a widow in your court you can remarry in the event they die. Likewise, it's absurdly easy to recruit prisoners to your court. This makes it even easier to gain access to more meat shield knights and you'll often regularly be capturing people with good claims. For example, you've been asked to join in a war where you don't really have any real stake in the outcome. Instead, look at all hostile provinces of the enemy and his allies and decide what you'd like a claim on, go siege it and there's a good chance you'll capture children and grandchildren of the owner who either have a claim outright or will inherit one if not the actual land itself. Then don't ransom them, just recruit to your court and then marry into your family and voila you have a good claim for the land in your dynasty if not an outright path to owning it via inheritance. If they captives are younger than 16, then just hold them until 16 and then recruit to court. Likewise you can extend this via seduction, kidnapping and hook fabrication to bring people to your court. 2 Nerfing Alliances In addition to assassinating marriage bonds to break alliances prior to an invasion, you should always pause the game and declare war on your opponent's allies at the same time. This not only keeps them focused on their own wars so they don't gang up together, in fact, they are unable to do that because the game only allows a single conflict vs a single opponent. But even more, it sometimes makes them hostile towards each other due to some weird kind of bug. Whenever there is a kingdom collapse into independent counties, if you declare war on all at once, their armies will often fight each other when running away from your own So if i were invade England and they were allied with France, simply declaring war vs England means fighting two armies in England. Whereas if I declare war on both of them the French Army (which I need to fight anyway) now stays in France and can deal with them individually. The key is when you knock out the English army not to enforce demands and let them use their remnants to join up with France but leave that conflict going while you move to take France. 3. Fake Alliance for Defense This makes things like restoring Zoroastrianism as Saoshyant absurdly easy. It should be incredibly tough to survive the early stages surrounded by hostile faiths but it's not because you almost never get attacked. Get those alliances with far off Indians. Despite that it'd take months for them to arrive and they'd never factor into a fight, the AI doesn't consider this. Likewise, you can make alliances with countries literally out of your diplomatic range so you can't even call them into war and yet the AI will account for their numbers and not attack you. 4 Spend one generation building economic buildings If you are in a secure position just use that time to build farms, orchards, pastoral grounds, hunting lodges and keeps, they pay for themselves in short order and then you'll never be in financial trouble the rest of the game. It's really insane the AI doesn't seem to develop these at all. 5. Unlike in CK2, nobody ever joins holy wars Ignore the warnings, nobody ever helps them out. 6. If Crusade is coming up, save 500 piety, Sometimes the AI will pick an area that's really only 1-2 counties (ie they chose Syria but Byzantines control all but 2 counties so the reward is small). Likewise, you may have a real struggle vs a muslim opponent you want taken out or you just really want to play as a new character in a crusader state in India. The world is your oyster if you just save 500 piety to direct the war to anyone else you see fit. 7. Always check if your daughters can matrilineally marry any rulers or heirs, likewise try to marry off non inheriting sons into ruling women. You'd be surprised how frequently this is possible. Good way to spread the dynasty across the globe. [link] [comments] | ||
