It may not be reforming the Roman Empire, but I had alot of fun reforming one of Alexander's successor kingdoms (slightly modded to allow me to form it as a Greek)

My attempt at Octavian as portrayed by Max Pirkis on HBO's Rome, needs some work but I think it's a decent start.

I've officially finished CK2, onward to CK3... eventually.

You guys think your characters had it bad growing up! At least most of your childhoods wasn't a slasher film!

When swearing fealty to a new liege of a different faith, the AI should always give you the offer to convert as part of the negotiations. Saying yes and then revoking your title right away is odd.

    Posted: 01 Jan 2021 08:32 PM PST

It seems like almost every time I try this, I often times get my titles revoked more so than being offered to convert. If I WILLINGLY join a realm, I should be given the option to convert more so than not as I NEGOTIATED my fealty with that ruler. I wasn't conquered. That's the whole point of a negotiation. At least it should be seen as tyranny. There have been plenty a time when rulers of different faiths bent the knee to each other if the other was powerful

Is it normal to complete all cultural advances well before the game end date?

    Posted: 02 Jan 2021 07:48 AM PST

I'm just about getting round to finishing my first play through of the entire game with Navarra, but i completed all the cultural advancements by 1290 without actually focusing on that part of the game at all. I only had 1 or 2 characters with really high learning... At this rate I'm wondering if it's like that for every complete play through?

It feels like a pretty underdeveloped part of the game if every single play through is like this and I was just wondering what everyone else's experience of this was.

    Bye Bye Byzantines

I've seen quite a few posts lately celebrating the successful restoration of the Roman empire. So I wanted to show my own attempt at taking over the Byzantine empire, and show not everything always goes as planned.Apparently becoming the new emperor of Rome isn't as easy as those screenshots on reddit make it seem.

    https://preview.redd.it/czaz2q36wv861.jpg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9dfd6e1630a29ba1cca27ba0a7ba9362a6e183fe

    Short history:

    • As the emperor of Italia I married a Byzantine princess and produced an heir.
    • My heir is very far down the line of succession, but does have a claim on the entire Byzantine empire.
    • I murder a few emperors to weaken them and then declare war on the entire empire for a measly 3k prestige cost.
    • With the help of my allies I win the war and grant my son independence as the new Byzantine emperor.
    • He is immediately challenged by a faction with a military power double ours combined (about 50k troops)
    • I pull back to Italia, leaving my son to his fate. He doesn't lose the war however, but dies. Invalidating the war and leaving the byzantine empire in the hands of my 10yo granddaughter.
    • Apparently my granddaughter wants nothing to do with her murderous, excommunicated grandfather, so I murder her (did I say my character was evil and completely crazy?) and inherit the Byzantine empire. For a short, glorious moment I am now emperor of both Italia and the Byzantines.
    • Remember that 50k strong faction though? They had already declared war on my granddaughter. A war I now inherited and am unable to win.
    • 1000s have already died, so I give up and surrender, granting them their independence. I am still the byzantine emperor, but most of my land is now owned by independent Bulgaria. The Byzantine empire is gone.
    • While all this was happening, I seduced one of my courtiers as my wife was too old to grant me a new heir. I legitimised the bastard and finally, I died.
    • I now continue playing as the 11 year old, bastard emperor of Italia and the Byzantines. I have a claim on most of Bulgaria, but it will take a while before I can take back what's "rightfully" mine.

TLDR: Tried to take over the Byzantines as emperor of Italia, but instead broke it up completely.

Do you feel a general lack of unfortunate events?

    Posted: 02 Jan 2021 03:35 AM PST

Apart from things that you can control to an extent (stress mechanics etc) I feel like in CK3 everything tends to go well, too well... most of the time.

Comparing this to CK2 when you would get unfortunate random events happening out of the blue, your family/courtiers tending to be more malicious, plagues being so much more deadly...

The other day I played CK2 for half an hour while waiting for CK3 to download on a new PC and I wasn't even 15 minutes in when my female countess got the "dangerous pregnancy" event. Since her hair was just 2 years old I didn't want to risk her dying, so I chose the "terminate pregnancy" option. Next thing I know, my husband told everyone how I "killed" our child and I get the infanticide debuff, all my vassals hate me and my realm is in chaos.

I got a similar feeling when the bubonic plague crept in, and no matter how careful I was I still gave a lot of casualties in my army, court and family. When the plague was finally over, I had to look at the ruler I'm stuck with (because the original heirs were all dead), look at what remains of my court and levies and had to improvise with what I've got.

Even if you had the most perfect heir, something bad could happen to him or those around him and that made the game so challenging, so invigorating and so fun. In CK3 I need to purposefully send low prowess heirs into battle on their own or intentionally deny them medical treatment when they get sick for them to die, with my 100% consent and planning.

I was wondering if anyone felt similarly..

Can someone tell me why MY BROTHER is the heir to the Empire of Italia, which I haven't even created when my succession law is primogeniture and I have two sons anyways?
