Herpes plunged my kingdom into Civil War

Had one of my best Crusader Kings stories emerge while playing yesterday so I thought I'd share a story about how herpes managed to almost destroy the Kingdom of Ireland.

My ruler was Queen Eugenia of Ireland. By this point, Ireland controlled Wales, Brittany, Iceland and much of Scotland.

Eugenia was intelligent, beautiful and had an education in intrigue. For me, this made the perfection combination to try out one of my favourite strategies from CK2 - keeping all my vassals loyal by seducing them and keeping them as my lovers.

For the first decade of her rule, this strategy appeared to be working. Most of my vassals, married or not, were seduced by Eugenia and the remaining disgruntled vassals were not powerful enough to be a serious threat.

However, Eugenia then managed to contract Herpes (Lover's Pox). I'm not sure if it was from a courtier or a vassal, but quickly she managed to spread it to almost every one of her vassals.

One by one, they broke up with her. Not only did she lose the opinion boost from her being their lover, but they were all angry at Eugenia for her giving them herpes. Soon they all banded together into a faction to depose Eugenia and replace her with a distant relative.

They were a strong force, it was only through large reserves of gold and plenty of mercenaries that the rebellion was put down. After being imprisoned, the vassals all had their titles revoked, several going to Eugenia's lovers which stayed loyal.

It is one of the most fun examples of emergent storytelling I have seen in CK3 so far. For me, the idea of a country being plunged into civil war because of herpes is both ridiculous but also in somehow historically plausible.
