With the new stress system you will experience Shakespeare stories

    Posted: 16 Jun 2020 09:01 AM PDT

Rulers have to make difficult decisions, the weight of a crown weighs heavily. Perhaps it will be a treacherous uncle who ends up in the dungeon or a childhood friend who became too ambitious.
A kind man will not forget his sins. Soul wounds fester forever. You can hide them and try to displace them. But they will always be there, invisible and smoldering. The soul will suffer, what should you do if you find no distraction in the whore's house or if redemption on the pilgrimage was just an empty promise?

The sins of the past will catch up with you. The kind man may become a cynic. From the cynic, maybe an asshole whose bad temper spreads to choleric fits. The suppressed guilt will erupt like a volcano.
My most loyal vassal is now my enemy. Should he go, I don't need him. A king does not apologize, he was chosen by God. A king has no friends. A king doesn't need friends. A lesson that every ruler has to learn, isn't it? I have no words. Traitors, fraudulent snakes. My voice is in my sword. Life's but a walking shadow. Honor. Love. Friends. But in there's death. Curses. Will these hands never be clean?

Guilt becomes madness. The laughing death out of madness.
Now he is in front of me, my beloved son on the cold bare rock. In his own blood. The murder tool in my right hand. How could it possibly come this far? The pain will never end, it is so hungry and greedy, demands more and more and more. Wasn't I forced to? Am I just a puppet by the strings in Lucifer's hands? I will never bow, I'm not begging for mercy, I am a king. Come to me fire, doom and ruin,
I want to die with the blood of my enemies on the sword blade...

One thing is clear, the stress system alone will enable you to experience cinematic stories in CK3.
Stories like Macbeth in a computer game, maybe it would be better to play a sadist with a pure certain. However, I'm really looking forward to it.

    Shocking news!

    Posted: 16 Jun 2020 06:28 AM PDT

Playing as Haesteinn and prepared invaded Constantinople, reformed the Germanic faith. Promptly being Jihad and Crusaded at the same time, ganked by the 40k+ troops at my doorstep. It was a fun run, next time will probably try to become catholic or orthodox to avoid this.

    Niche tips & treats

    Posted: 15 Jun 2020 11:14 PM PDT

Hey here's a list of some niche tips and tricks I've learnt over my time. Feel free to share your own.

    Crusades (Catholic/Fraticelli)

    • For max particaption, only fight battles. The only time you need to besiege is to get the crusader trait or if you are creating a crusade state.
    • Crusader states are easiest created by sieging the top holding of each county in the duchy. Once created, it's best to settle crusaders. You'll become their tributary overlord, so you can call them to war regardless and not be reasonable for their defence, unless you want to be.
    • If the crusade isn't going to reach the 75%, try knocking off the target enemies leader, or switch the target to a more suitable victim. You always want a crusade to happen and to win for all the gold/artifacts you can acquire.
    • Crusades are the easiest way, along with the theology focus & catholic societies to have family members become saints. Along with the obfiscuate bloodline (kill 30 + become the pale spider) to remove known murder, you can stack saints into the family ever so often.

    Bloodlines

    • Very easy to marry maternially into your family. It's best to inherit through your female lines (cognatic election successions, for example elective gavelkind or tanistry are best for this). You can over many generations eventually get every bloodline into your family
    • Bloodlines, like the pagan raiding bloodline, don't need always operate as you may think. You don't need to collect the raid revenue to reach 200 raids, for example.
    • To maximise a character with one bloodline, you want to: Create a bloodline (society, decision) Create a bloodline through a special empire (latin, crusader, chinese, roman, slavic etc) Forge Alexander's bloodline (requires empire + chance) Become immortal (requires a lot of chance and luck) Die, become a saint

I personally like to have my immortal ruler kick around after forcing myself to abdicate as a courtier/commander/court tutor. Current one is 278.

    Succession

    • Best form of succession, besides imperial elective, is tanistry. Easiest way to pick niche family members to carry on the bloodline with materniterally married bloodlines. You can buy favours from voters to influence the election. Try for counts or below, as dukes and above are expensive to buy favours from.
    • Tanistry is easily acquireable from Niall nine hostages bloodline, or celtic cultures.
    • Gavelkind can be easily cheated by being close to death/having depressed. Give all the land you want to keep to an older, low intrigue couriter and either wait for death or suicide. Then simply kill them and any children they may have had to get your titles back. Allows you to keep the benefits of the higher demense.
    • Gavelkind elective is annoying to have if you are giving away a lot of titles to family members, as they tend to vote for the better candidates in a lot of titles. So you favoured heir may become the lord of a niche terrority if you're not careful. And the AI has a habit of dying.

    Culture/religion combos

Some of the best culture/religion combinations:

    • Khazar culture Norse Religion Merchant Republic. Allows raiding, good raiding retinues, ridiculous jewish quarters on silk-road tradeposts, cheap ships. Starting a republic on socotra is by far my most entertaining/overpowered game I've played.
    • Tanguat culture Pagan/Christian religion. Cool names, ability to convert to chinese imperial, raiding always, one of the best retinues.
    • Norse culture Zunist religion (reformed/unreformed). Norse infantry + religion toopr heavy infantry bonus + all the useful norse culture benefits (varangian, runestones).
    • Berber/Turkish/Altaic Cultures (such as Khazar) + christian religions. The ability to always raid, jewish quarter (Khazar).

    Artifacts

    • Search for the artifact name is one of the easiest ways to acquire them. Sometimes random couriters inherit artifacts or get overthrown. Often an easy way to get artifacts like Iron Crown of Lombardy, Imperial Diadem, Dragon Amulets, Ark of the Conventant etc as these do not transfer from overthrowing a ruler.

    • One of the best weapons, the Zweihander, can be obtained by creating a weapon from inviting a weaponsmith with your own smiths. This is done through having a lvl 2 Fortress Great work with an armory and a germanic/latin culture/iberian/celtic (Norse, French etc). If you have been stacking bloodlines, the +20 combat rating is easy to achieve.

    • Special books can also be created through the compose book decision with upgraded great works libraries.

    • Artifacts can be obtained through raiding a capital, such as the Papacy's Rome. Although the chance isn't particular high, after a few-go's it can happen.

    Great Works

    • An event fires if the great work is over 50 years old, you're at peace and has at least two feature slots building in which a holding slot will be created. Keeping track mentally of that 50 years mark is the best way to grow your empire/demense tall.

    Governments

    • For merchant republics, I like to create one after around 100 years of paganism, in which I have a large amount of family members and ideally just won a crusade, giving a large surplus of gold. After this, create the merchant republic and invite as many male members as possible. If you are in range of China, you can sell artifacts (like Mjolnir, Andvaranaut) to easily fund a trade contract, scholar-bueractic and master engineer. Spend all your saved up tech points on construction and oversee construction. This is a very easy way to achieve 100% build time reduction (1 day). This allow you to max your family mansion quickly to add a grand palace. Along with a large amount of family members, build as many trade posts as possible (30-40) and then get your family members to sod off. With a large number of tradeposts, few males in the court, it's easy to start progressively upgrading the tradeposts, waging war for other tradeposts to further increase your limit and killing rival families to inherit 1/4 of theirs.

Be keen to hear yours too :). Also if anyone has advice on determining the value of the artifacts received from the search for artifact event, I'd be interested. Received staff of moses only once.
