Dev Diary #0 - The Vision

    "Greetings friends!

It's my pleasure to finally be able to talk about what I've been working on ever since Stellaris came out (and before) - Crusader Kings III, of course! CK3 draws on the wisdom gained over CK2's seven long years of expansions and patches - all the things we simply could not do in that game - and represents the natural evolution of Crusader Kings. Yes, CK3 is an evolution, not a revolution; it's better across the board and does not alter the core CK experience. That said, we did not carry over everything from every expansion and update to CK2. Rather than trying to do full justice to the less appreciated systems, we decided to go deep rather than wide."

CK3 events are now driven by character decisions

    Posted: 24 Oct 2019 09:52 AM PDT

"The traits you cultivate for your character won't just inform their abilities, but the types of things that happen to them. Maximilian Olbers, the game's content design lead, had been working on Stellaris prior to moving focus to CK3, and took a lot of that game's thinking on event design over with him.

"A big one we learned from Stellaris is that it's good when there's a direct link between action and reaction in the case of events," he explains. "The old style would have random events popping up and telling you something that might or might not be relevant, generated by basic game state parameters and a random timer. We're successfully moving away from that now – virtually every event in Crusader Kings 3 is a direct consequence of either an action that you did, or an AI actor in your vicinity."

For example, if a nearby ruler picks a diplomatic lifestyle for themself, and focuses on building their skill in foreign affairs, you can expect to see the results in your own realm. They might invite you on hunts, or lavish diplomatic summits… but they might also choose to throw their weight around more in the ducal political landscape. "It's important to remember that almost all of the events are two-sided," says Olber. "Either you're doing something, or someone else is doing it to you."

This is super exciting to me. The role playing aspect of this game is just gonna be so awesome :D The idea that events are now driven by decisions of your character and other characters will make the world feel much more dynamic and lived in.

Just completed my first ironman game in ck2. I started of as Count Rodessius of Taranto, southern Italy in 768. Ended as Empress Eleanor of Aquetaine.

Which changes to combat and warfare would you like to see in CK3?

    Posted: 24 Oct 2019 03:29 AM PDT

I am really looking forward to CK3 hoping that the version at launch will be much better received than Imperator for example. Although I love CK2 there are apparently many issues that should be improved.
For instance, it always bothers me that armies just roam freely deep into enemy territory. I would love to see a system that guards borders with fortifications or something similar, preventing enemy armies and raids to pillage your lands.

Furthermore I feel that the repercussions of marching from spain to denmark to siege a holding should have drastic consequences on supply etc.

What do you think? Which features would you like to see?

So I was playing Crusader Kings II and suddenly discovered that my heir apparent was conspiring to fabricate a claim on one of my kingdom titles for someone else!
