Probably not that big of an achievement, but I'm pleased I was able to form Portugal in the first 40 years of the game!

Here's The Most Likely DLC's We'll See Based on What the Game Needs

    Posted: 13 Jan 2021 08:56 AM PST

Every day there's a few posts created asking about what we expect the DLC will include. After playing CK3 extensively, I think it's extremely obvious where Paradox either cut content or were planning to release a more extensive mechanic through a DLC. (Not to throw Paradox under the bus for cutting content for DLC purposes since I love the game). These are the places where it is most obvious Paradox needs to either make improvements, an overhaul, or add additional content.

Just looking at the base game so far you can see exactly where DLC will likely be coming:

    • Warfare: CK3 is a fantastic game, but we can all admit that the combat leaves a lot to be desired. Why can't I raise specific portions of my army? Why is the UI for dividing armies so difficult, and why is the UI about seeing battles so mundane? I can't see width well, or how certain man-at-arms are countering without having to pause and scroll over each individual icon. I would love to see this added on with a feudal Japan addition. When looking at the game map it appears jagged at that side which leads me to believe that Japan might have been added then removed, or they're planning to expand the map. And also, feudal Japan is something that sounds super fun.
    • Naval: In earlier patches, Paradox made sure that enemy ships don't run away from yours, despite no naval combat. Perhaps this is a spoiler that there intended to be naval combat but it was taken out either due to time constraints or for DLC. At the moment, there is no emphasis on naval power or being near a coast besides unique buildings to boost development. A naval DLC would greatly influence how the game is played. Similar to EU4, I could see this coming with a Mediterranean and Scandinavian expansion that bolsters raiding and island/coastal empires.
    • Trade: I could see a trade DLC being released, with emphasis on Africa and Central Europe. The idea of guilds, wealth, and something similar to trade hubs would be a welcome edition. As well, players would have the option to play as Republics such as Venice. Also, similar to EU4 and HOI, it would mean that unique resources would now be a point of contention for Empires. So far there are VERY few areas of the map worth contending solely for resources (there are a few mining areas that are high value). Adding new trade centres or natural resources to collect will mean that certain counties would be ducat generators but would also shift hands constantly.
    • Empire and Diplomacy: Paradox already commented on how doing Byzantine Empire is difficult to do, so I can see a diplomacy and empire expansion that gives empires more to do in the late game. Perhaps empires can have more options for diplomacy with other empires, or more crisis to deal with. This would, of course, be coupled with a Byzantium DLC that would help with empire, vassal, and court UI and expansions. This would probably go along with more enhanced espionage, such as spies (instead of a single spymaster) that can be used to gather secrets, with overall effectiveness coming from their own base stat as well as the spymasters. Similar, they would be members of your court that you could send to other courts based off of their traits or arranged marriages. More expansion in trade would also be helpful, with new pacts for defensive, offensive, and trade agreements with other players worked into the diplomacy, stewardship, and espionage life paths. In addition, players would be able to play as religious leaders. Let's be honest, we all tried to play as the Pope at one point just for fun.

Those are the four biggest things I can think of for now. The fact that warfare, navy, trade, and empire are the weakest links now and have a lot of room for expansion make me feel like this is what is expected. Furthermore, the fact that there are 3 main leadership groups (religious, mayor-lord, and dynastic) make me feel like that's at least 2 expansions in itself to allow players to play as a city state or religious state.

Some 92 year old grandpa from Iceland ploughed my Norwegian 19 year old granddaughter and got her pregnant while I was away raiding England. What a damn cradle-snatcher. Never seen anything like this.
