I know none of the terminology or the geography of the time, where can I go to learn it?

    Posted: 22 Jul 2020 04:58 AM PDT

I dont know dukes, counts, petty kings or kingdoms. I tried assasinating my vassals for their land although im not sure if I already have that land and they just tend to it for me. I dont know the history at all and I dont know de jure or demesne. I dont know how to perfectly use whats at my disposal or anything. Where can I go to learn this.

Edit: You all have been extremely helpful, I am reading all the responses. I WANT TO LOVE THIS GAME

Is it ever worth actually leading your armies?

    Posted: 22 Jul 2020 11:50 AM PDT

I almost always try to avoid leading my armies, because of the catastrophes it can cause.

"Well, just this once I'm going to try it." I thought. "I can't be Craven forever."

My leader had a Personal Combat Skill of 30. Pretty terrible for a Viking or something, but as a Christian I felt like it wasn't that bad.

Sure enough, a battle event triggers - the enemy commander has a PCS of 5, so I chase him down for a duel. Result? Either I die or have to give over one of my other commanders instead...okay that sucks.

Next battle? I get severely injured.

Eventually I trained up my PCS to about 40 with duelling and War Focus events. Suddenly I get an event pop up in my next war that just tells me flat out that my head has been crushed by a mace and I'm now Incapable. Like, not even a duel or chance of a good event. Just "You decided to headbutt a warhammer and now you're fukt lol".

Is...is it even worth taking to the battlefield? I know how King Harold felt now, every time I put feet on the ground I immediately seem to take an arrow to the eye socket.

Hey everyone! After falling in love with Viking Buddha (still my fav) I watched a mate stream as a Hellenic pagan. It seemed awesome and I'm a big Greek history fan, so I'm gonna try it out!

If anyone wants to come along, I'll be going live at 1:30 eastern (about 40 minutes). Link is below!
