What I'm going to miss most in CK3...

    Posted: 05 Nov 2019 05:36 AM PST

    The event pictures.

I guess some must consider them a bit impersonal since they don't really feature your character, but they're just so good at illustrating the emotions of a scene - even events that would otherwise feel a bit too basic end up feeling like they're something worth paying attention to, courtesy of the art.

Honestly, the artwork for events in CK2 was really darned good - even the older event artwork holds up to this day.

Now, I'm not going to say that the way events represented in CK3 is going to be bad, but... With the more realistic style of the character models and the way that they're going to be emphasized, it's going to be a lot harder for the game to capture the feeling of your character going insane or being a wicked tyrant. A sinister hooded figure standing over a man with his head on the executioner's block, with the scene drenched in red colors and the clouds seeming to form faces twisted in pain, gives such a greater feeling of your character being a monster than a more realistic portrayal of the scene could ever hope to match - at least, in my opinion.

Of course, I do also recognize that it must have taken a heck of a lot of time for them to make all of these event pictures, and the new system will be a lot more flexible, but... I'm going to miss the old style for a long, long time.

Turns out everyone hates my wife

Conclave is great. I don't get why people hate it.

    Posted: 05 Nov 2019 02:11 AM PST

It really adds a layer that makes the council relationships a lot more engrossing.

For example, situations like having that guy who hates you in the guts but the whole council owing him favors adds a challenge that I find so good.

I can't play the game now without this DLC.

Spot of good luck, had to share

    Posted: 05 Nov 2019 06:28 AM PST

No one in my real life cares about my CK2 games so here we are. Anyway, I'm playing an Iron Man game as the Capet count of (I think it's) Bourbon on the 769 start, trying to beat the score of the historical Capets. It's usually not too hard if you game monastic orders and the theology focus for piety and ask the Pope for claims on every woman and child you can. Through careful consolidation and some luck I married into the Carolignian dynasty (which weirdly conquered England!) and have more or less consolidated western Europe - except for Italy which weirdly shattered into all its component duchies, something I've never seen happen in more than 1,000 hours of play.

But my good luck is this: The Abbasids in this game are fucking huge. They have part of Anatolia. They've got all of north Africa. They have a chunk of Iberia, the fuckers. They are the biggest, greenest blob I've ever seen.

BUT SOMEHOW one of their princesses, young and with ok traits, ended up in the court of some random Khan, unmarried. And I was able to marry her with my character! So now all I need to do is have kids, force the Caliphate into a regency and press my claim in order to unite everything from the Pillars of Hercules to the Indus. Glorious. Wish me luck and fertility, y'all.

Do you want China to be added in CK3?

    Posted: 05 Nov 2019 01:54 AM PST

I want them added, but I don't know how it can be introduced in CK3 without breaking the game.

China during CK's time period was an extremely rich and a comparatively stable empire. They were also one of the most technologically advanced nations (if not the most) during this era. China in the hands of a decent player would WC very easily, don't you think? That wouldn't be very fun though.

It will be a challenge for them to accurately portray China's immense wealth and power during this time period while maintaining enjoyable gameplay mechanics.

    Roman culture spread rate

    Posted: 05 Nov 2019 04:12 AM PST

So I recently reformed the Roman Empire and restored Roman culture. My immediate family and some minor vassals have converted to Roman culture and several provinces in and around Rome have as well. How long will it take for my other vassals to convert or do I need to abduct and re-educate encourage their heirs to adopt the culture?
