I attended a gaming-themed party in my university. After more than 2100 h with CK2, this was the only logical choice.

I really hope CK3 cares more about historicity than CK2 often does

    Posted: 16 Nov 2019 04:48 AM PST

Don't get me wrong, I love CK2, but Paradox has a bit of an issue with inserting bad or "meme" history into their games.

For example there is the disease witch hunt event chain in which you can accuse random courtiers or nobles you have a bone to pick with of witchcraft and incarcerate and finally burn them. Then there is the rulership event of a woman being potentially burned at the stake as a witch. Finally there is the scholarship astronomy event chain in which you proof heliocentricism is correct and piss off the clergy if you publish your findings. Other cases include the embarrassment that was the Hagia Sophia comments during a dev stream, stating that before becoming a mosque the church was not important. Lastly I hope Germanic will be better balanced in CK3 than CK2 as it is currently a Neo-Pagan wankfest.

This historical illiteracy isn't confined to CK2 but also happens in EU4. Golden Century was supposed to be an Iberian flavour pack but pissed off the fanbase by barely giving flavour to the Iberians and instead creating pirate republics and minority expulsions the British used. Here and here. In the latter post the author accuses Paradox of recency bias and how tilted everything in the game was towards the British and North America.

So in the end I really hope Paradox doesn't repeat mistakes and tries to keep historicity alive in CK3.

Turns out he had to make me a Eunuch to get it out of me...

    Pagan Reformation Doctrine Ideas?

    Posted: 16 Nov 2019 08:04 AM PST

Currently I'm playing as a Romuvan King of Lithuania and I'm just about ready to reform since all my vassals like me and I'm going for an ancestral bloodline with this current character, I've got Unyielding Nature, Ancestor Veneration, and Temporal Leadership all figured out but I've got an open Doctrine spot and I was looking for thoughts. Meritocracy is out since my heirs typically aren't my sons I've got Pure Blood on so Divine marriage is redundant, polygamy isn't necessary cause tribal, Stability is a possibility but it isn't my first choice, Religious Tax isn't necessary since I don't have any heathen vassals and we're currently working on converting all of our land, Monasticism isn't necessary cause I don't need to disinherit anyone, Syncretism is just a waste, Haruspicy could work but again better options, Astrology and Bloodthirsty Gods both are really my best options so far but deciding between the two is difficult, the gender ones are pointless, Daring seems interesting but we're already going to have GHWs, Sea-Bound makes no sense to have being that I'm almost completely inland with no navy whatsoever, Animistic is ok but not as high up as Astrology and Bloodthirsty Gods, Defender of Dievas is the weakest of all pagan exclusives and it's made redundant by my combo of Ancestor Veneration and Unyielding, and Pyramid Creation is sort of a luxury I don't need because I'm building a Great Stone Circle in my capital.

Let me know your thoughts and what you think the best choice between Astrology and Bloodthirsty Gods.
